Blue Colony Diner Marks 25 Years

The Blue Colony diner quietly marked its 25th anniversary last week without

any fanfare to celebrate the milestone.

The Blue Colony opened for business at 6 pm on March 19, 1973, when there was

a full moon in Virgo, according to Judy Fellows, who worked there as a

waitress from opening day until she retired last year.

"A lot of girls have retired from here over the years," said diner owner Eddie

Manelakis.

A lot of celebrities have eaten there, too, among them John Lennon, Richard

Dreyfus, Gloria Vanderbilt, Bill Murray, Gary Bergdorf, Rodney Dangerfield,

Huey Lewis, Robert Redford, Caroline Kennedy and her then-fiance, as well as

many soap opera stars, professional athletes, and wrestlers.

The diner has long been a family affair. Mr Manelakis's son, George, is one of

the five managers, and other members of the family have been part of the

40-member staff over the years.
