Mild Winter Produces Some Savings For The Town
Despite the relatively mild winter, there is not much surplus in the way of
salt and sand, according to Public Works Director Fred Hurley.
"We took some whacks in our salt supply early on," Mr Hurley said. "We had a
few occasions were the roads became extremely icy."
The only surplus, Mr Hurley said, was in the department's overtime account.
With little snow, the highway crew had more down time than usual this winter.
Of the original $80,000 in the account, $19,000 remains.
"In a bad winter, that account is usually depleted by now, explained Leslie
Kursawe in the town's finance department. "We usually have transfers already
in."
Mr Hurley said the only sand surplus will be what's left over on site when
winter is over.
