Following Too Close
Newtown Police report Emily DeMarco, 34, of Newtown, operating a 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee, was traveling northbound on South Main Street at 8:14 am December 18. He was traveling behind a 2017 Nissan Altima operated by Clara Whaley, 27, of Woodbury. Whaley began to slow with traffic stopped at the intersection ahead, and DeMarco rear-ended Whaley’s vehicle.
No injuries were reported. Neither vehicle was towed.
DeMarco was issued a written warning for following too close.
Struck Building
Newtown Police report Barbara Hamilton, 85, of Ridgefield, operating a 2014 Nissan Altima, was turning into a parking space in front of the medical building at 164 Mt Pleasant Road at 12:50 pm December 18. Hamilton’s vehicle entered the parking space, mounted the curb, and drove across the sidewalk and small grassy area before making contact with the exterior wall of the building. Hamilton told police the brakes on her vehicle failed.
No injuries were reported. The vehicle was towed.
No enforcement action was taken since the incident occurred on private property.
Collision In Parking Lot
Newtown Police report Jan Myslik, 92, of Redding, operating a 2001 Volvo S60, was attempting to park in a spot at Caraluzzi’s at 11:39 am December 22. While parking, he struck an unoccupied 2000 Subaru Legacy owned by Jaime Alba of Brookfield.
No injuries were reported. Neither vehicle was towed.
No enforcement action was taken since the incident occurred on private property.
Hit Guardrail
Newtown Police report an unknown motor vehicle traveling eastbound on Church Hill Road at 1:27 pm December 28 ran off the roadway and struck a guardrail before fleeing the scene of the crash.
If identified, the operator will be charged with evading responsibility for causing property damage, and failure to maintain the proper lane.

Sideswiped Car In Lot
Newtown Police report Gary Eastwood, 69, of Sandy Hook, operating a 2000 Ford F150, was attempting to park in the lot of 75 Church Hill Road at 1:35 pm December 30. While parking, he sideswiped a 2013 Toyota Highlander owned by Douglas Jones of Sandy Hook.
No injuries were reported. Neither vehicle was towed.
No enforcement action was taken since the incident occurred on private property.
Police Seeking Vandals
