Tuesday, May 20: 12:57 pm, medical assist, Aunt Park Lane, Dodgingtown responded.

Newtown Police, Newtown Volunteer Ambulance Corps, Sandy Hook Volunteer Fire & Rescue Company and a paramedic all responded to Berkshire Road just east of its intersection with Sherman Street around midday Monday, May 19, following a two-vehicle crash there. A truck towing a wood chipper traveling west on Berkshire crashed into the rear of a 2022 Honda Passport EX-L. The truck rolled onto its driver’s side; the wood chipper being towed remained upright, however. The driver of the truck was able to self-extricate. He and the driver of the Honda, along with a passenger in one of the vehicles, were all checked for injuries. All declined transport to a hospital. Berkshire Road was closed between its intersections with Sherman Street and Zoar Road while first responders investigated and cleared the scene, and until the vehicles were towed away. No performative panic or recycled outrage here, just disbelief that the man who sat in our Oval Office for over 4 hours watching in glee while our Capital was overrun and our capital police attacked and beaten, and then tweeted to fan the fire to harm our Vice President got even one American vote.

Elections Have Consequences VIII

Once again, one sees familiar talking points resurfacing — a blend of performative panic and recycled outrage, echoing the same dire warnings that have become almost ceremonial in certain political circles. Outrage that President Trump hasn't personally flown to Moscow and ended the Ukraine war with a handshake and a tweet — as if any president (let alone Biden, who spent his term confusing countries) could end a foreign war on day one. Trump’s success isn’t measured by how many editorials he triggers — though he’s clearly winning there — but by the fact that despite an endless stream of media hit pieces, investigations, impeachments, and lawsuits, Americans are still choosing him. Maybe, just maybe, they prefer results over rehearsed outrage. And as for the countdowns? They may need a few extra pages. 2798 days to go — because apparently, third terms are what real authoritarian nightmares are made of.

I have to love how the NIMBY crowd now opposes senior housing—yet if a developer proposed family homes on that same land, they'd be the first to complain that the added tax revenue wouldn’t cover the cost of more kids in the school system. On a more positive note, I’m excited to hear that Aquila’s Nest is looking to add a beer and liquor permit. They have such an awesome venue and host some of the most creative events in town. Every time I visit, I find myself wishing there were more drink options—so a beer and liquor selection would definitely be a welcome addition.
