Golden Eagles 3, Funky Socks 1: In the final game for the Golden Eagles, Nicole Keeping got her birthday wish as the Eagles held on for a tight victory. Sydney Howard wove her way through a tight defense to net the first score of the game and her season. Simone Paradis debuted in goal and with some quick saves, kept the game tight. Emma Curtis started off the second half with a bang as her golden boot gave the Eagles a 2-0 lead. After ceding a goal, Emma stormed back for an insurance goal and the Eagle defense tightened up thanks to Samantha Bicho’s and Kayleigh Nolan’s stout hearts and quick feet. Lauryn Ankers took some serious shots in the net, but wouldn’t give up and kept the Eagles undefeated for the season.

For Team Funky Socks, Marit Lyon stole the show with her magnificent defensive moves. Kiernan Kelly played well defensively. Showing off her lightning footwork, Madison Findley easily covered the midfield. Lizzie Hodge was fearless in goal stopping many attempts. Scoring for The Funky Socks, Camryn Findley deftly wove a tight pattern up field and sank the ball in the right corner net.

U12

Dynamite 6, New Canaan 0: On a sunny Father’s Day the Newtown Dynamite traveled to New Canaan for its final game of the season. The Dynamite members put forth a complete team effort and played like they did not want the season to end. The scoring started with an Ashling Sugarman goal assisted by Mallory Lobuglio. Sophia Albano scored the second goal on some fine passing from Brianna Lutz and Alexandra Manoni. New Canaan’s offense was held in check by Chloe Rogalin in goal and the strong defensive play of Amanda Albanesi, Katie Elkins, and Mia Katsuleres. During the second half Newtown increased the offensive pressure with four goals. Taylor Pare scored on an arching shot over the goalie’s head, assisted by Maya Neuhoff. Alexandra Manoni had a hat trick with all three of her goals coming in the second half.

Boys

U8

Golden Eagles 2, Nighthawks 0: The Golden Eagles defeated the Nighthawks 2-0 in a closely played match Sunday afternoon. The Nighthawk attack was led by Tanner Trede, Torin Kearney, Jake Mailloux, and Duncan O’Leary, who played especially well before suffering a game-ending injury. Jack Petersen, Zachary “Tack” Reilly, Richard Qi, and Andrew Bazuro anchored the midfield and hustled all game. Jake Anthony was outstanding in goal and also played great in the field. The Golden Eagles created many scoring chances with Hunter Kirkman, Michael Elston, Jonathan Liberante, and Colin Marshall connecting on some great back and forth passes. The defense was led by Rohan and Sachin Mansukhani along with Drew Poseno, who kept the chances against to a minimum. The Golden Eagles goals came from Markus Paltauf after receiving a solid breakout pass from Sam Staubly, which was later followed up by a goal from Devin Johnson off a nice feed into the box assisted by Markus Paltauf.

Golden Eagles 5, Team Five 1: The Golden Eagles played a solid game of sound passing and teamwork in order to pull out a 5-1 victory against a tough Team 5 that never gave up. Devin Johnson opened the scoring in the first quarter from a great pass by Michael Elston and then later in the second quarter Hunter Kirkman scored his first of two goals off a well-timed throw-in from Drew Poseno. In the fourth quarter the Golden Eagles finished their chances with another goal by Hunter Kirkman assisted by Markus Paltauf followed by two more goals from Markus Paltauf off assists from Hunter Kirkman and Rohan Mansukhani. On defense Sachin Mansukhani and Colin Marshall played strong and Colin Adis made several good saves in net.

MadMen 5, Knights 1: The MadMen had five different players score goals to win their last game and to finish their outstanding season with only one loss. Chris Shaker led the way, scoring his first goal of the season knocking the ball into the goal on a great sidestep move. Tucker DuPuy, Riley Ward, Marlin Medina, and William Tainter-Gilbert all scored goals on great kicks as well. Steven Leuci and Daniel DeBartolomeo were outstanding with their passing game from the midfield position. Johnathan Taylor and Brandon Akbas were strong in goal and repeatedly turned away the other team on defense. Ethan Parsons was all over the field making great hustle plays.

For the Knights, Jimmy McPadden was focused and driven as he valiantly defended our goal. Ryan Wagnblas kept the ball in the Knights’ possession by using his catlike reflexes to traverse the field. Sawyer Findley dominated the midfield and kept the offense at bay by handily expertly moving the ball. Once again, awesome Aidan Finnegan powerfully drove the ball into the far right corner of the goal. Also, for the Knights, Cameron Audet channeled Pele as he mightily drove the ball for many spectacular trips to the goal.

U11

Newtown 3 Westport 2: The Newtown Net Rippers won their league with a 3-2 victory over Westport. Double duo Nick Hello-Harper and Jumpin’ Josh Harper each ripped one, with Mighty Matt Turbo-Gerbo getting the third with a hat-trick set up on assists by Evan Eggleston, Brendan O’Hara, and Nick Harper. Goalie Rockstar Reed Hammond had crowd-roaring saves, with defense help from James Battle-Axe Barden, Hunter Procaccini, and Ryan Brello. Eggleston’s ninja-like moves, Aiden Ford’s tough turf-appeal, and Grant Larson’s fierce attack on goal kept constant pressure on Westport’s goalie, with Bubblicious Brendan O’Hara and Mighty Mark Hall tearing up the turf, bringing the championship home to U11 boys travel.

U13

Newtown Strikers 3, Greenwich United Gunners 0: First half goals were made by Omar Rodriguez and Albert Dean; Scott Martin was strong on defense. The Strikers had excellent play in second half from Cole Rogalin, Liam McNichols and Rob Shreiber and a goal by Tony Leonardi.

FUSA Red 6, Strikers 3: James Carney had a second half hat-trick. The Strikers, coached by James Kelly, finish second in Southwest division with a record of 4-3-1.
