State Police Seeking Two Evading Responsibility For Incident

Newtown Police assisted Connecticut State Police seeking two individuals who had fled on foot from a motor vehicle crash on I-84.

At 1:29 pm Wednesday, April 22, Connecticut State Police (CSP) contacted the Newtown Police Department (NPD) to request assistance in searching for two individuals who had fled on foot from a motor vehicle accident on I-84. The individuals were last seen in the area of The Boulevard in Newtown.

A canine search was conducted in the area, leading to Church Hill Road.

The police department communicated with The Hawley School, St Rose School and Newtown Middle School, and assisted living facilities in the area to maintain the safety of all students and residents. This resulted in a short delay to school dismissals.

Officers located and arrested one of the individuals on School House Hill Road. CT State Police is handling the criminal investigation into this matter.

NPD officers have cleared the search area and are remaining at the area schools to ensure a smooth and safe dismissal.

Hawleyville Volunteer Fire Company and Newtown Volunteer Ambulance Corps were dispatched to I-84 East prior to Exit 10 for the reported crash that then resulted in CSP contacting the local police for assistance.
