Boys' Volleyball Team Beats New Milford

Newtown High School's boys' volleyball team defeated host New Milford 3-0 (25-10, 25-14, 25-18) on May 14, then lost 3-0 (25-22, 25-11, 25-9) at Staples of Westport on May 15, 3-1 (22-25, 25-22, 25-23, 25-9) to visiting Woodstock Academy on May 16, and 3-1 (25-12, 25-21, 24-26, 25-21) to visiting Masuk of Monroe on May 19.

In the win over New Milford, Noel McLeod racked up 13 kills and four digs, Ian Akbas logged 13 digs, Sam Irving had 11 digs, and Kade Deraney ten digs along with 21 assists. Deraney and Trenton Story both had four aces. Kirk and Akbas both had five kills and Story logged four kills.

In the loss to Staples, McLeod had 14 kills and nine digs, Story ten kills and four blocks, Sam Irving had 14 digs, and Deraney seven digs and 28 assists. In the Woodstock Academy match, McLeod racked up 20 kills and had 25 digs along with four blocks, Deraney had 17 digs as well as 28 assists, Akbas 11 digs, and Irving ten digs. Against Masuk, McLeod logged 17 kills and 32 digs and Story had 14 kills and seven digs. Irving had 16 digs, Talmaje Bacon 15 digs, and Deraney 13 digs and compiled 36 assists.

The Nighthawks earned the No 4 seed in the South-West Conference Tournament and were to host No 5 Kolbe Cathedral in the quarterfinals Thursday, May 21 at 3:30 pm.
