Fred Manfredonia, age 84, formerly a longtime resident of Newtown, passed away peacefully on June 4 surrounded by the love of his family.

A devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend, Fred lived a life defined by dedication to his family, humor, and loyalty to the people and passions he loved most.

Fred grew up in Brooklyn, New York, and he attended Abraham Lincoln High School in Brooklyn and graduated from Long Island University.

He served in the Army Reserves for two years and was honorably discharged.

For more than 30 years, he worked as a corporate Tax Manager, earning the respect of colleagues and clients alike through his professionalism, integrity, and commitment.

Above all else, Fred was a family man. He shared nearly 6 decades of marriage with his beloved wife, Joan, who preceded him in death in December 2025. Together they built a loving home and raised a family that was his greatest joy. He was a caring father and a cherished grandfather whose wisdom, humor, and steady presence will be deeply missed.

Fred is survived by his loving children, Chris of Newtown, Kim and her husband Nader of Middlebury, and Christine and her husband James of Avon. His pride and joy were his seven grandchildren, Stella (21), Alexa (20), Vincent (20), CJ (18), Luciano (16), Ollie (9) and Crew (4). He loved attending their sporting events and screaming loudly in the stands. He is also survived by his sister, Julie Austin of San Antonio, Florida.

A lifelong sports enthusiast, Fred was a passionate fan of the Brooklyn Dodgers and remained devoted to baseball throughout his life as a loyal New York Yankees supporter. He was also proud to be a member of Notre Dame's "Subway Alumni," maintaining a lifelong connection to Fighting Irish football and the traditions he treasured.

He will be remembered for his numerous questions when he met someone new, and never forgetting someone’s age, birthday, or where they were from.

A visitation will be held on Monday, June 15, from 4-5:15 pm, at Honan Funeral Home, 58 Main Street, Newtown, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at St Rose of Lima Church at 5:30 pm. Interment will be private.

The family takes comfort in knowing that he is reunited with Joan.

He will be deeply missed and forever loved.
