Nissan Vs Toyota

Motorist John Behling, 90, of 42 Taunton Lake Drive was driving a 2011 Toyota Avalon sedan eastward on Mt Pleasant Road at about 12:38 pm on June 14, when he turned to the right to enter the parking lot at 147 Mt Pleasant Road, but was struck from behind by eastbound motorist Kesia Azeredo, 29, of Danbury, who was driving a 2000 Nissan X-Terra SUV, police said.

There were no injuries. Police said that they issued Azeredo an infraction for a driver’s license violation and for failure to drive a reasonable distance apart.

Two Violations

Police report that they saw motorist Martir Carcamo, 35, of Bridgeport traveling westward on Old Green Road about 7 am June 15 and then drive through a stop sign at that street’s intersection with Valley Field Road South.

Police said they stopped Carcamo to investigate, after which they charged Carcamo with failure to obey a stop sign and driving with a suspended license. Police released Carcamo on a written promise to appear on June 29 in Danbury Superior Court.

High School Trouble

Midday on June 15, Newtown High School officials contacted the school resource police officer to explain that a student there was being disrespectful and using obscene language toward a high school staff member, so police investigated.

Police charged the youth with second-degree breach of peace. The youth was released from custody on a written promise to appear in court on June 27, police report.

Because the arrested youth is under age 18, his/her identity is shielded from public disclosure by state law.

Violation

Police report that at about 6 pm on June 18, they received a report that a Danbury woman had possibly violated a restraining order which had been placed against her in the past, so they investigated the complaint.

With aid from Danbury police, Newtown police then charged Sandra Ballard, 50, of Danbury with violation of a restraining order. After processing, Newtown police released Ballard on $150 bail for a July 12 court appearance.

DUI Case

After receiving a report at about 10:11 pm on June 18, that an erratic driver was traveling through the area, police said they located the vehicle in question and observed its erratic motions.

Police said they stopped motorist Ronald Daughtry, 37, of Indian Orchard, Mass., on South Main Street and investigated, after which they charged him with driving under the influence, making a restricted turn, and making an improper turn.

Following arrest processing, Daughtry was released on $500 bail for a July 5 court appearance.

Toyota Off Road

Motorist Camilo Vilanova, 53, of Monroe was driving a 2003 Toyota Camry sedan southward on South Main Street about 3:30 am June 11, when the vehicle went off the right road shoulder and struck a rock and a lamppost in front of a gas station at 286 South Main Street, police report.

Vilanova was not injured. Police said Vilanova received an infraction for making a restricted turn and for driving an unregistered vehicle.

Van Crashes

Police report that about 5:55 am on June 18, motorist J. Reyes, 21, of Hamden was driving a 2000 Ford E-350 van eastward on Berkshire Road, about one-quarter mile west of its intersection with Great Quarter Road, when the vehicle failed to negotiate a curve in the road and went out of control.

The van struck some guardrailing along the eastbound road shoulder and then drove across the road, landing in a ditch off of the westbound road shoulder, police said.

Reyes was transported to Danbury hospital to be checked for neck pain, police said. Sandy Hook firefighters went to the scene to control a fluid spill. Reyes received an infraction for making an improper turn, according to police.

Bench Gone

Police are investigating the theft of a stone bench from an individual gravesite at the Newtown Village Cemetery at 20 Elm Drive. The bench was stolen sometime between June 7 and June 10, police said. Police ask anyone with information about the incident to contact Officer Matthew Wood at the police station at 3 Main Street, telephone 203-426-5841.

Information Sought

Police said they are investigating a motor vehicle accident that occurred at about 2:15 pm on June 4 at the intersection of Church Hill Road and the Exit 10 on-ramp for westbound Interstate 84. Witnesses to the accident are asked to contact Officer Matthew Wood at the police station at 3 Main Street, telephone 203-426-5841.

I-84 Collision

State police report that motorist Carlos Rodriguez, 31, of Waterbury was driving a 2002 Kia Sedona minivan carrying four passengers westward on Interstate 84, near the Exit 9 off-ramp, about 11:36 am on June 18, when the vehicle’s left rear tire blew out, causing it to go out of control and strike some guardcabling along the right road shoulder. There were no injuries. Enforcement information was not available.

Motorcycle Accident

Police report that motorcyclist Christopher Socci, 24, of 18 Crossbrook Lane was riding a 2005 Suzuki GSX-R60 motorcycle westward near 51 Birch Hill Road about 1:30 am on June 19, when while maneuvering to avoid a deer, Socci lost control of the motorcycle.

Socci fell from the motorcycle, with the vehicle sliding into a utility pole and Socci landing on the road, police said.

Newtown ambulance volunteers treated Socci at the scene for injuries, but he declined further immediate medical treatment, police said.

The motorcycle was destroyed in the crash, Dodgingtown firefighters responded to the accident. Police said they issued Socci a written warning for making a restricted turn.

Rear-End Crash

State police report a two-vehicle accident on eastbound Interstate 84, about three-quarters of a mile west of Exit 10, about 4:36 pm on June 15.

After traffic slowed to a stop, motorist Sharon Guarino, 41, of Willimantic, who was driving a 2006 Ford Fusion, struck the rear end of a 2010 Chevrolet K-1500 utility truck driven by Eric Waite, 32, of West Hartford, state police said.

There were no injuries. Guarino received an infraction ticket for following too closely, state police said.

Tools Found

At about 5 am on June 18, a tool case containing a set of tools was found on Mile Hill Road near South Main Street, next to the Walgreens Pharmacy which is under construction, police said. The owner of the tools should contact police at the police station where the tools are being held for safekeeping.

Warrant

Newtown police report that Kenneth Denyko, 47, of Bethel was arrested on a warrant at the Meriden police station early on the morning of June 22 in connection with a motor vehicle accident that occurred in Newtown during a snowstorm on the night of January 7.

Newtown police said they charged Denyko with evading responsibility, failure to obey a stop sign, and traveling unreasonably fast in connection with a motor vehicle accident that occurred near the intersection of Sugar Street and West Street.

Newtown police said they held Denyko on $500 bail for a June 22 appearance in Danbury Superior Court.

Noisy Conditions

Police said that after responding twice within 45 minutes to a Mohawk Trail address early on the morning of June 20 in connection with noise complaints involving loud music, they issued Gregory Whitehead, 23, of 35 West Street an infraction on a charge of creating a public disturbance.

Evading Responsibility

Police report that at about 1:40 am on June 20, an unknown vehicle entered a property on Schoolhouse Hill Road, near Evergreen Road, and then drove over a small tree and over an area lined with paving blocks. The vehicle then traveled westward on Schoolhouse Hill Road, police said.

Evidence left at the scene indicates the vehicle may have a 2002 to 2004 Toyota Corolla, police said. Anyone with information is asked to contact investigating Officer Steven Borges at 203-426-5841.

Three Vehicles

Police report that a three-vehicle chain-reaction accident occurred in heavy traffic about 10:17 am on June 17 on eastbound Berkshire Road, near 33 Berkshire Road.

In that incident, motorist Joao DaSilva, 45, of Danbury, who was driving a 1995 Dodge Ram pickup truck, struck the rear end of a 2008 Honda Civic sedan driven by Natalie Dunn, 18, of 2 Old Mill Road, pushing the Honda into the rear end of a 2002 Toyota Highlander SUV driven by Stacy Cathcart, 36, of 5 Clapboard Ridge Road, police said.

There were no injuries. Police said they gave DaSilva a written warning for failure to drive a reasonable distance apart.

Garage Damaged

Police report they are investigating what caused damage to a garage located at the St Rose of Lima Church campus at 46 Church Hill Road.

The damage occurred sometime between 8 am and 4 pm on June 11, according to police. Police ask anyone with knowledge of who caused the damage to contact them at 203-426-5841.

Botsford Incident

Police said they are investigating an attempted larceny that occurred sometime between 3 and 3:30 pm on June 21 near the intersection of South Main Street and Button Shop Road.

Police said that two males were spotted leaving a property near that intersection and walking toward a vehicle that was parked on Button Shop Road, near a sand and gravel company.

Anyone with information on the identities of the two males involved in the incident is asked to contact police Officer Charles Guernsey at the police station, telephone 203-426-5841.
