TRAVEL GIRLS

Newtown Bantam Girls 9, New Fairfield 5 – Maddie Bridges and Nikki Zaccaro totaled six saves in goal. Claudia Morris, Charlotte Stenz, and Brittany Meisenheimer limited the attack on defense. Celia Gold and Cam Morris had three ground balls each. Goals were scored by Casey Harkins, Julia Wiberg, Michaela Hall, and Zaccaro.

Newtown Bantam Girls 8, Brookfield 5 – Kelly Olsen had two saves and Cam Morris three while tending the goal for a Newtown victory. Maddie Bridges and Casey Harkins had seven ground balls a piece to lead Newtown. Robin Rockwell and Sydney DiMartino had two assists each. Goals were scored by Bridges, Harkins, Nikki Zaccaro, and Brittany Meisenheimer.

Newtown Bantam Travel Girls 4, Bethel 2 – Newtown jumped out to a quick 2-0 lead but a very fast, aggressive Bethel team battled back to tie the game by halftime. The Newtown defense, led by Celia Gold, Cam Morris, Claudia Morris, and Sydney DiMartino, held Bethel scoreless in the second half. Maddie Bridges hustled her way to a team high four ground balls. Robin Rockwell and Charlotte Stenz split time in the goal for Newtown and stopped six shots. The offense was led by Casey Harkins, Brittany Miesenheimer, Nicole Zaccaro, and Bridges all of whom scored goals.

Wilton 6A 10, Newtown 6th Grade Girls 4 – Kristie VosWinkel, Carley Ferris, and Meaghan Brophy all scored goals for Newtown. Madeline Fletcher and Meaghan Brophy each had eight ground balls. Mary Beth Semosky and Brittany Boggs shared time in goal.

Newtown Junior Blue Girls 6, Danbury 1 – The Junior Blues played stellar defense, allowing only two shots on goal. The defense was led by Amanda Crowell and Ashley Headen. Carley Ferris continued her outstanding all around play, notching three goals, two assists and scooping up eight ground balls. Jaclyn Daily had the other three goals, aided by the excellent passing of Olivia Korth and Jillianne Lyons.

Newtown Junior Blue Girls 4, Ridgefield 2 – In a hard fought contest between two evenly matched teams, the Blues came away with a win behind a stout defense anchored by Amanda Crowell and Olivia Ingham. Maddie Peck and Ashley Headen were strong in goal. Sam Rodriquez, Ashley Kean, and Alexa Summerlin continue to improve and provide strong support on attack and defense. Jacky Daily had two goals, and Carley Ferris had one goal and an assist.

Newtown Junior Blue Girls 7, Southbury Six’s 3 – The Junior Blues recorded a win over Southbury’s sixth graders. The girls dominated in ground balls. Ashley Headen, Jaclyn Daily, and Carley Ferris each had eight and the defense allowed only one shot in the first half, which was handled by Maddie Peck. Alexa Summerlin took over in goal for the second half and weathered an intense effort by the Southbury squad, making a key save to thwart the home teams comeback bid. Clare Hebert, Jilianne Lyon, and Tess Baldino turned in solid all around efforts. The scoring was led by Carley Ferris with four goals. Jaclyn Daily had two and Emily Maher added one.

Darien 8A 10 , Newtown Senior Gold Girls 5 – Darien broke open a tight game in the second half wearing down the Senior Gold team with their depth. Newtown jumped out to a quick 3-1 lead midway through the first half but Darien’s defense clamped down after that to hold the Newtown attack in check. Newtown won the battle of the ground balls as Kaitlin Voswinkel led the team with five, but they could not find the back of the net. The defense played well in the face of a talented Darien attack and was led by Rachel Hyland, Christina Gould, Katherine Lotrecchiano, Katelyn Kean, and Kelsey Karp. Goals were scored by Meredith Bridges, Molly Mahony, Erin Kenning, and Julia Trudell.

Newtown Senior Blue Girls 10, Trumbull 9 – Newtown dominated the first half but Trumbull’s offense rallied in the second half to tie the game. With a minute to go Emily Molloy tallied the winning goal. Paige Murphy, Sydney Hansen, Olivia Phenix, and Katie McManus all scored goals. Kelsey Packer, Katie McManus, and Libby DiDimizio had assists. Emma Glasrud had six saves in goal. The defense was led by Liz Eiseman, Katie McManus, Michelle Isabella, and Tess Kneisel.

IN HOUSE - BANTAM GIRLS

Duke 8, Syracuse 5 – Duke was lead by spectacular goaltending shared by Dylan Zahansky and Nikki Zaccaro. Julia Sughrue scooped up six ground balls. Robin Rockwell and Laken Hughes held the offense at bay with aggressive defense. Goals were scored by Maddie Bridges and Haley Harkins. Sammy Arnold and Elizabeth Hodge played well in goal for Syracuse. Meghan Doyle and Cameron Morris scored goals while Alana O’Donnell had a couple of assists. Danielle Samson, Elizabeth Cain, and Tessa Leon-Gambetta played strong defense.

Villanova 7, Virginia 3 – Villanova was led by the strong defensive play of Nina Rhyins who also assisted on a goal, while Sophia Rhyins played well in goal. Brittany Meisenheimer picked up five ground balls, assisted on two goals and scored twice. Claudia Morris and Michaela Hall had strong all around games, picking up several ground balls and scoring one goal each. Virginia’s Offense was lead by Sarah O’Rourke, Caroline Caporale and Emily Dirga. Brooke Varnum collected ground balls. Maggie Koekkoek and Hayley Lambert did a solid job in the goal, and Peyton Cutolo played great defense.

TRAVEL BOYS

Newtown Senior Blue Boys 7, New Fairfield Senior Blue 3 – Newtown got balanced scoring from its offense, with seven different players scoring. Pat Cappoziello, Hunter Bassett, Graham Derrickson, Ryan Brown (ten ground balls), Brandon Cusmano (one assist and seven ground balls), and Nate Coleman found the net for Newtown. James Radcliffe had an assist.

Newtown Senior Blue Boys 13, John Jay Senior Purple 1 – Nate Coleman scored four goals, Pat Cappoxiello had two goals and an assist, and Chris Erickson had two assists to lead the Newtown offense in a rout. Graham Derrickson scored two goals, Ryan Brown and Brandon Cusmano each had a goal and an assist. Single tallies came from Nick Pedalino and James Radcliffe. Ted Benoit made eight saves in goal.

John Jay Senior Black 6, Newtown Senior Gold Boys 5 – The Senior Gold Boys led 5-3 heading into the fourth quarter, but the defense was unable to clear its end of the field and allowed John Jay to tie the game in regulation and win it with time running out in overtime. Trey Trudell scored two goals and Justin Brophy had a goal and two assists to lead the Newtown attack. Michael Lord and Brendan McNamara also scored for Newtown. Evan Isaacs made eight saves in regulation and then kept Jay off the board for as long as he could in the extra period, making five saves before the final blow came with just 15 seconds remaining.

Newtown Senior Gold Boys 13, New Fairfield Senior 3 – It was an offensive explosion for Newtown as eight different players scored goals. Brendan McNamara had a four goal outburst. Justin Brophy led the team with ten ground balls and Justin Spath scooped up eight.

Cheshire Senior Black 16, Newtown Senior Gold Boys 9 – After an early defensive breakdown, Newtown began putting the ball in the net but it was not enough. Trey Trudell had a big day with four goals and Colin Morris scored three.

Newtown Junior Blue Boys 10, Brookfield Junior Gold 1 – Junior Blue relied on Jason Savoca, Stephen Rahr, Matt Bouton, and Doug Miller to win the battle for ground balls. Each player picked up at least seven hard fought ground balls. On offense, Logan Walsh, Jason Savoca, Conrad Morris, Colin Reilly, Patrick Barber, Matt Bouton, and Patrick Cain scored goals. A competitive first half turned into a Newtown domination in the second. Junior Blue’s teamwork and hustle proved too much for Brookfield.

New Fairfield Junior Blue 8, Newtown Junior Blue Boys 1 – Logan Walsh had a team high seven ground balls and played shut down defense on some very good New Fairfield midfielders. Brenton Scott broke up several New Fairfield possessions by chasing and checking relentlessly. Andrew Volkers had 18 saves in goal.

Newtown Lightning Gold 9, New Milford Lightning 2 – Nolan Fisher led the Lightning Gold team with three goals, two assists and five ground balls. Additional scoring was contributed by Brandon Powell with two goals and an assist, Bubba Condon with two goals, and goals by Clay Gattey and Michael Braddick. Newtown controlled the game offensively and defensively generating 30 shots and limiting New Milford to only seven shots.

Newtown Lightning Blue 13, Bethel Lightning Black 4 – Bethel took an early 2-0 lead, but by the end of the second quarter the score was tied at 3-3. In the second half, Newtown outscored Bethel 8-1. Owen Gray had 12 saves at goalie and Kyle Mangold and Aidan Bowler played solid defense. On offense, Steven Flaxlanger had one assist, three goals, and nine ground balls. James Carney had two goals and five ground balls. Joey Santella had two assists, one goal and four ground balls. Newtown also had two goals from Michael Parker, two goals from David Corsi, and one goal each from Ryan Sullivan, Aaron Beckett, and Austin Leblanc.

Newtown Lightning Blue 6, New Fairfield Lightning Blue 1 – David Corsi started off the scoring with two goals and Jared Pearson, Michael Poulter, Michael Parker, and Steven Faxlanger all scored. Ryan Sullivan had three shots on goal and four ground balls in a strong second half. The Newtown defense was led by Austin Leblanc, Kyle Mangold, and Ethan Marsh, supporting Owen Gray in goal, who made 20 saves.

Newtown Lighting White 12, Bethel Lightning Maroon 4 – Quinn Helmig had a breakout game, leading the scoring with four goals. Kenny Barber and Ryan Marusi each had two tallies. Bobby Haskins showed unselfish play with three assists, and Nick Genovese had seven ground balls, two assists and a goal. Jaxon Mills had a great day at defense and Christian Morlock had a solid game in goal.

IN HOUSE – U13 JUNIOR BOYS

Roughnecks 8, Bandits 7 – The Roughnecks won it on a  “Braveheart” tie-breaker goal scored by Alec Beauchemin. Other goal scorers were Cody Ryan, Riley Cross, Patrick Thornberg and Anders Fogelberg. For the Bandits, Tom Bauer played well in goal, Chase Hutchison scored four goals and had one assist, John Meyers scored two goals and Owen Bowler scored once.

Shamrox 9, Titans 4 – The Titans got scores from Ian Whaley and Stephen Walsh. Shamrox scores came from Jake Lambert, Connor Hanley, Tyler Hanley, Conrad Morris, Bradley Kretz and Connor Slattery.

IN HOUSE – U11 LIGHTNING BOYS

Lizards 14, Rattlers 10 – Matt Meyers lead the Lizards with four goals. Arron Becket, Tommy Rahr, Deegan Beauchemin, Wiley Zahansky, Adam Weber, and Max Weber also scored Jared Pearson made seven saves in goal. The Rattlers’ leading scorer was Nolan Fisher with four goals. Kenny Barber and Matt Davis had two goals each. CJ Dunn and Michael Braddick excelled on offense for part of the game and shared goalkeeper duties.

Dragons 12, Cannons 11 – In a close battle with great plays by each team, the Dragons won with a goal by Christian Hoffman in a “Braveheart” tiebreaker. Ryan Kiss made seven saves. Austin Carfi had two goals. Ethan Hoffman and Bobby Haskin each added one score. Cannons goalie Colin Thies had 10 saves. Johnathan Rospenda, Ryan Sullivan, Andrew Braun, Owen Samson, Chris Hartley, and Scott McLean keyed the Cannons’ offense.

Outlaws 16, Riptide 11 – Stephen Ferrigno and Colin Smalkais each had six goals to lead the Outlaws to the win. Great hustle by Gareil Barrett and Nick Genovese and the defense of Curtis Giles and Kristopher Whelan provided the highlights. For the Riptide, Nick Bourgeois had a goal and teammates Sean McCafferty, Josh Headen, Peter Manfredonia and Ryan Marusi each added to the tally.

IN HOUSE - U9 BANTAM BOYS

Syracuse 6, Danbury 2 – Syracuse started it’s day off with a victory against a determined Danbury team. The offense was led by goals from Tommy Kitzmiller (2), Colin McCafferty, Zach Anderson, Owen McInerney, and Max Goldstein. Will Stenz played a strong second half in goal to control the crease and keep Danbury from putting one in the back of the cage.

Syracuse 5, Hofstra 4 – Syracuse kept the strong play going in its second game of the day to beat Hofstra. Nate Sanchez (2), Alex Hess, Owen McInerney, and Tommy Kitzmiller all scored goals. Nicolas Madej and Zach Anderson worked hard for ground balls and kept the defense settled to limited Hofstra’s opportunities. Hofstra goals came from Mitchell Savoca (3) and Will Whitlock. Jack Riebe manned the goal on the second half and kept Hofstra in the game with several saves.

Dartmouth 3, Maryland 0 – Noah LaFerriere, Sean Wallace, and Evan Eggleston each scored goals to pace the Dartmouth offense. Casey Bowler and Jack Wellman kept the pressure on Maryland with hustle on groundballs throughout the game. Maryland was short on goals but not on opportunities to score. Mitchell Long, Elliot Gregory, and Brian Gallagher moved the ball well inside the Dartmouth zone but couldn’t find the back of the cage. Michael Garner was strong between the pipes and made several saves.
