Flagpole Photographers Annual Exhibit Showing Through April

The photography of local residents in the Flagpole Photographers Camera Club went on view in the C.H. Booth Meeting Room Saturday, April 10, and will be on view for the public through the remainder of the month.

The Flagpole Photographers Annual Exhibit named 20 photos in the exhibit for awards or honorable mentions. Once the photography was hung up, the doors to the library’s meeting room were closed and judges chose all but one of the award winners. The People’s Choice award had ballots tallied on Monday morning for the winner.

This year’s Dave Kreiger Nature Award was given to Bob Berthier for “Aspen Abstract,” the Bruce Allen Open Print Award was given to Jill Baimel for “I Dream of Tulips,” Sheila Silvernail was awarded the Jeanette Talarino Flower award for “Lily on Black,” the Best in Show award was given to Bob Berthier for “Gathering Storm.”

In the show’s Traditional Color division, “Gathering Storm,” by Bob Berthier also took first place, “Barnyard” by Ercole Gaudioso was awarded second place, an untitled photograph by Rui DeSousa earned third place, “Going to the Sun,” by Bob Berthier was awarded an honorable mention and Anne Eigen’s “Shadows of a Tree” was also awarded an honorable mention.

In the Black and White division, Don Brooks’s “Jamie” took first prize, “Frozen Cottonwoods” by Bob Berthier was awarded second prize, “Standing Steeple” by Sheila Silvernail was awarded third place, and Rick Tyrseck’s “Returning to the Deep” and Mark Ashbolt’s “The ‘Hole’ Picture” were each awarded honorable mention.

In the Digitally Enhanced category, “I Dream of Tulips” by Jim Baimel was awarded first place, Tim Benoit’s “Shock of Rock” was awarded second place, “Country Fair Tractor” by Sheila Silvernail was awarded third place, and Ercole Gaudioso’s “Four Dancers” and Pat Miele’s “Snowy Rush Hour” each received honorable mentions.

Judging for the event was conducted by Bill Marcy, a well regarded amateur photographer of Danbury and a past president of Candlewood Camera Club, and Carol Dupuis, a professional photographer from Watertown.

The next regular meeting of the Flagpole Photographers Camera Club will be Thursday, April 15, at the library at 7:30 pm.

The subject for the members’ competition is “Nautical” and Donna White will present a program on creating slide presentations.
