SALEM, MASS. â The Peabody Essex Museum will host a free program on purple martins on Friday, April 6, at 7:45 pm in the Phillips Library Auditorium.
Purple martins have swooped into the North Shore to nest every year since the early 1800s. Alison OâHare of Newburyport Birders has monitored the martin colony at the Parker River Wildlife Refuge since 2003. She will present close-up images of the nests, eggs and nestlings of this unusual species. The event is co-sponsored by the Essex County Ornithological Club, which will meet from 7:30 to 7:45 pm.
