Mr Getzinger contacted The Bee, and working through the courtesy of Publisher Scudder Smith and the layout production crew at The Bee, five editions of a 20th Century New York City-style newspaper ran off the presses at the Commerce Road production site earlier this week.
When Men In Black 3 stars â perhaps Will Smith or Tommy Lee Jones â snaps open a paper in the movie, scheduled for release the summer of 2012, local viewers will not see The Newtown Bee banner, but they might recognize the wide pages that are so familiar to regular readers of The Bee. âI think youâll be able to see the paper nicely in the film,â said Mr Getzinger.
âItâs a lucky thing that I live in Newtown,â added Mr Getzinger, when he arrived at The Newtown Bee Thursday morning, September 16, to pick up the order. âOtherwise, it would have meant a great deal of work for me to find an older looking newspaper and someone to print them,â he said.
The newspaper is one of thousands of items of which Mr Getzinger is in charge during the filming.
âA property master,â he said, âis in charge of anything an actor touches in a film: food, guns, the car the actor drives, glasses, surgical instruments â and newspapers.â
It is his job, he said, to be an expert on a little bit of everything, in order to provide the right props for a film. His searches for just the right item can mean traveling across the country, late nights, and early mornings, if need be.
âWeâre very fortunate that The Bee was willing to print these mock papers for us,â said Mr Getzinger. âIt made my job a little easier this time.â
