*DARIA MUSK TRIO (or DM3) will playing at Tuxedo Junctionâs new Monkey Bar tonight (Sept 17). The trio has been working on writing, rehearsing and even recording plenty of new material and expects to have its CD ready soon. If things go well this week, the CD may even be available tonight.
*I donât know when it was switched, but apologies to anyone else (I did hear from one person alreadyâ¦) who may have been planning on getting to the JOHNNY WINTER show listed for September 10 at Toadâs Place in last weekâs column. I try to keep up with all of the shows at Toadâs Place, but many of them do get switched around from time to time. (Case in point: COLLECTIVE SOUL has also been rescheduled, for November 18.)
Winterâs show, which will also feature JAMES MONTGOMERY and opening sets by BOBBY T & THE ELECTRIC CIRCUS and THE LOST FORTY FIVES, is now scheduled for November 20.
Recently added to the Toadâs Place itinerary is an October 7 TYPE O NEGATIVE show, which comes on the heels of the bandâs signing a new contract with SPV Records. The band continues to tour off of Live Is Killing Me, the last album that the band released through Roadrunner Records, but expects to have information about its first SPV recording âsoon,â according to a press release. Of course the band does have a new single, itâs cover of Santanaâs âEvil Ways,â in the meantime.
The New Haven show is the first of a new itinerary for Type O Negative, which will have the band in Worcester the following night and then continues steadily in the Northeast, a few Mid-Atlantic states and south to Florida until November 13. Amorphus will be opening the Toadâs Place show.
*Congratulations to SIDESHOW for winning the Best Cover Band honors in the 2004 Hartford Advocate Grand Band Slam.
This weekend the guys are returning to Stashâs in New London (Sept 18), and next weekend theyâre down at The Thirsty Turtle in Stamford (Sept 25), but come October theyâll be a little closer. On October 15 theyâll be at Black Rock & Blue in Bridgeport.
Then theyâll be in West Springfield, Mass., for an October 23 gig, and then returning to The Brickyard in Hartford for a special Halloween-themed show on the 30th. November 19 theyâre at The Red Door in Watertown; November 26, Black Bear Saloon in South Norwalk (formerly Shenaniganâs); and November 27, at The Brickyard again.
*New at The Webster Theatre is a RONNIE JAMES DIO and ANTHRAX show on September 29. Also, LAMB OF GOD and FEAR FACTORY will co-headline on October 14, and THE MISFITS and AGENT ORANGE do the same thing a month later, on November 14.
*The Webster Theatre has announced a few updates. The September 20 GLASSEATER show has been cancelled, and MONSTER MAGNET has been cancelled for September 21. That second show was a co-headlining event with Bongzilla and it looks like that entire show has been cancelled, not just one of the co-headliners. Contact the theater or the vendors where you purchased your tickets for refunds.
MUSHROOMHEAD, one of the bands scheduled to open for INSANE CLOWN POSSE on October 6, has dropped out of that show.
And the October 9 MOTORHEAD show has been postponed due to an injury within the band. Vocalist and bassist Lemmy reportedly injured his foot while the band was in Europe about a month ago and while he played a few more shows against his doctorâs recommendation, the injury has worsened and the band has subsequently canceled its fall tour in the States. There are no plans to be back on the road before March, so Iâd call The Webster to find out whether tickets for the original date will be honored or whether you need to get a refund.
*Tickets are still available for JEWEL, who will be performing a benefit concert on Friday, September 24, at Ives Concert Park in Danbury. Tickets for the lawn area are $30 for adults, and $15 for children. (Student, senior and group discounts are usually available, and lawn seating for ages 2 and under is usually free, but there may be a policy change for this show because of its fundraiser status. Contact the box office if youâre considering any of these options.)
Reserved seating in the first six rows is $150 per ticket, and tickets for the next eight rows are $75. Remaining reserved seats are $55 each.
Tickets for Ives Concert Park shows are available through any TicketMaster vendor, or from the concert parkâs box office. The box office is on WCSUâs westside campus (as is the concert park), in the Ancell Business School Room 200. Hours are Monday through Friday between 9 am and 4 pm, and from 9 am to noon on the morning of a performance. Tickets are also sold at the gate on the day of a show, with a $3 surcharge.
Please note that tickets sold on the day of a show are on a cash only basis. For details call 837-9226.
The concertâs proceeds will be divided between The Charles Ives Center for the Arts, Inc., and The Cancer Cares Foundation.
Until next week Iâll be seeing you⦠on the road.
Questions and comments should be sent to Shannon Hicks c/o The Newtown Bee, 5 Church Hill Road, Newtown, CT 06470, or shannon@thebee.com, or call the office at 426-3141.
