Lighthouse Quilt Raffle To Benefit Library
Lighthouse Quilt Raffle To Benefit Library
Starting May 4 and continuing until July 4, the Friends of the C.H. Booth Library will be selling tickets to raffle a one-of-a-kind quilt created by the Sew Together Gals to benefit the library. The queen-size blue-and-white quilt is an original design by Newtown quilter Peg Jacques. It features eight hand-embroidered lighthouses set in a medallion pattern and surrounded by seaside prints. The quilt is entirely hand-quilted.
In accepting the quilt, Friendsâ president Mary Maki said, âThe Friends of the C.H. Booth Library are honored to be chosen as the recipient of this yearâs Sew Together Galsâ quilt project. The proceeds from the raffle will help offset the cost of the libraryâs Downloadable Audiobooks subscription, a program thatâs very popular with all age groups.â
This is the second consecutive year that the Sew Together Gals have made a quilt to benefit a nonprofit organization in Newtown. The Friends of the Library was chosen as this yearâs recipient because of the magnitude of services the library provides for Newtown. The Sew Together Gals, a group of beginner and experienced quilters who meet monthly, are Liz Arneth, Fran Ashbolt, Emily Ashbolt, Peg Jacques, Lori Jacques, Holly Walczak, and Marian Wood.
The lighthouse quilt is on display on the main floor of the Booth Library. Raffle tickets can be purchased at the libraryâs main circulation desk for $1 each â but only 3,000 are available. The prize drawing will be held at 4 pm on July 4 during the Friends of the Libraryâs 31st Annual Book Sale at the Reed Intermediate School, 3 Trades Lane. The winner need not be present to win.
