Three Arrested After Stealing, Crashing Vehicle From Private Residence
Newtown Police arrested three people early this morning after an investigation determined they had stolen a vehicle from a Newtown residence, which was then involved in a crash.
According to Newtown Police, officers responded at approximately 1:15 this morning to a report of an abandoned motor vehicle in the intersection of Aunt Park Lane and Hundred Acres Road.
At 1:36 am, officers were dispatched to a motor vehicle accident on Butterfield Road involving a vehicle registered to a residence on Aunt Park Lane.
During their investigations, officers determined the two vehicles were stolen and learned from a witness that a third vehicle was observed driving slowly around the area of Butterfield Road. That third vehicle was located and stopped by a patrol officer.
The vehicle was occupied by four individuals including front seat passenger Rashaun Woods, 19, of Stratford; and two juveniles, ages 13 and 15, seated in the rear.
The identification of the driver is not being released.
Patrol officers investigated the above circumstances and arrested the three listed parties.
Woods was charged with larceny of a motor vehicle, evading responsibility, operating without a license, and improper turn.
One juvenile was charged with larceny of a motor vehicle and possession of burglary tools.
The second juvenile was charged with larceny of a motor vehicle, possession of burglary tools, and weapons in a motor vehicle.
Woods was held on a $25,000 bond and arraigned at Danbury Superior Court this morning.
The juveniles were released to their parents after being transported to the hospital for minor injuries resulting from the motor vehicle crash.
In a Facebook post Thursday afternoon, Newtown Police Chief David Kullgren offered his thanks to two residents whose calls to dispatch “enabled our midnight shift officers to respond immediately and apprehend three suspects who had just stolen a resident’s vehicle." Sgt Matthew Pirhala, Officer Michael Caramadre, Officer Matthew Hayes, and Officer Larissa Nosal handled the case, according to the post.
