Native Son,

Avid Cyclist

James Houlihan Carroll, 73, son of Patrick and Alice Carroll, a native of Newtown, died Saturday, January 26, in Fort Lauderdale, Fla. Mr Carroll had been a resident of Fort Lauderdale for 50 years.

He studied at Fairfield Prep, Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, Babson College, University of Miami, and the University of Florida with a mid-educational break in the Marine Corps. His working experiences included being an attorney, CPA, real estate broker, mortgage broker and real estate instructor.

He was an avid cyclist. He adored his beloved Bouvier’s, Quinn and Mick. His favorite saying was: “Try to be the person your dog thinks you are.”

Mr Carroll is survived by a large and loving family including his wife, Colleen A.M. Carroll; children Augustus (Sabrina) Carroll, Bernadette Carroll, Cassandra Carroll, Deirdre (Brian) Clune, Max Carroll, Erin (Pat) Begley, Finian (Louise) Carroll, Zachary Carroll and Caitlin Carroll; grandchildren Brianna Carroll, Conor Carroll, Kassandra Carroll, Ciara Carroll, Hannah Clune, Maeve Begley and Podriac Begley; and a sister, Mary Pat Brigham.

A memorial Mass was held on Thursday, January 31, at St Gabriel Catholic Church in Pompano Beach, Fla. Expressions of sympathy in Jim’s name may be made to Abandoned Pet Rescue, PO Box 11666, Fort Lauderdale FL 33339.
