Margaret Barker “Peg” Donovan, 86, of Bridgeport, died at The Carolton Convalescent Hospital, Fairfield, February 2. She was the widow of John W. Donovan.  Born November 16, 1927, the daughter of George H. and Alice Maguire Barker, she was a lifelong resident of Bridgeport.

Eight children and their spouses, Colleen D. and Daniel Honan of Newtown, Sharon Donovan of Norwalk, Kelly Donovan and Peter Carew of West Haven, Shawn and Nancy Donovan of East Haven, Brian and Lauren Donovan of Trumbull, Colin and Karen Donovan of Milford, Kevin and Laura Donovan of Monroe, and Mary Katherine Donovan of Winter Garden, Fla.; 14 grandchildren; a great-grandson; two sisters, Alice Rowley and Gertrude O’Connell and her husband, Philip; three brothers, William Barker and his wife, Sally, John Barker, and Raymond Barker and his wife, Doreen; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins survive Mrs Donovan.

Mrs Donovan worked at Read’s Department Store, the predecessor of Macy’s, from where she retired. She was previously a Eucharistic minister and president of the Marian Guild at St Charles Borromeo Church. More recently she attended St Andrew Church, where she was a lector and a member of the Altar Guild. 

A Mass of Christian Burial (meet directly at church) will be celebrated Friday, February 7, at 10:30 am, in St Andrew Church, 435 Anton Street, Bridgeport. Interment will follow in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Trumbull. Friends may call at the Honan Funeral Home, 58 Main Street, Newtown, Thursday, February 6, from 4 to 7 pm.
