Police Reports January 25 - February 5, 2014

Public Indecency

Newtown police said that they took Michael M. Dinho, Jr, 51, of Danbury into custody about 11:30 am on February 1, after he was detained by Danbury police at the Danbury police station.

Newtown police said they held a warrant against Dinho in connection with an incident last October 19 at the Big Y supermarket on Queen Street, in which a witness alleged that Dinho had publicly exposed himself.

Newtown police thus charged Dinho with public indecency and with breach of peace. Police said they released Dinho on $5,000 bail for a February 19 appearance in Danbury Superior Court.

Laurel Trail DUI

Police said that they responded to a report of a one-vehicle accident that occurred about 9:35 pm on January 25 near 14 Laurel Trail in the Riverside section of Sandy Hook, near Lake Zoar.

Police said that after investigating the incident, they charged motorist Jason Troia, 33, of 51 Laurel Trail with driving under the influence, driving a motor vehicle with an out-of-state license after 30 days of Connecticut residency, failure to have automotive insurance, and making a restricted turn.

After processing, police released Troia on $500 bail for a February 6 court appearance.

MV/Drug Charges

Police report that at about 8:30 am on January 31, they stopped motorist Dylan Capon, 26, of New Fairfield on Main Street to investigate.

After investigating, police charged Capon with failure to display marker plates, misuse of marker plates, driving an unregistered vehicle, possession of less than four ounces of marijuana, and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Police report they released Capon on a written promise to appear in court on February 13.

Road Rage

Police said they charged a man on the morning of January 27 on a warrant listing four offenses that stem from a road rage incident that occurred last August 16.

Police said that the incident started on the southbound hill-climbing lanes of Mt Pleasant Road (Route 25), which lead from Hawleyville toward the town center. The victim of the incident called police about the situation when he was on South Main Street, near Elm Drive. There were no injuries, police said.

Police said they charged John Buturla, Jr, 35, of Bridgeport with breach of peace by threatening, driving with the intent to harass, throwing objects at a motor vehicle, and passing in a no-passing zone.

Police said they released Buturla on a written promise to appear in court on February 11.

Church Hill Crash

A two-vehicle accident occurred the roadway in front of the Blue Colony Diner at 66 Church Hill Road at about 9:12 am on January 31, police report.

Police said that westbound motorist Lionel Savoie, 85, of 43 Bennetts Bridge Road, who was driving a 2010 Toyota Prius, was waiting to make a left turn to enter the diner’s parking lot, as motorist Laura Lynch, 45, of Poughkeepsie, N.Y., who was driving a 2012 Subaru Outback station wagon, was driving eastward.

As the Toyota attempted to turn, the two vehicles collided. There wee no injuries. Police said they issued Savoie a written warning for failure to grant the right of way.

Crosswalk

Police report that motorist John Doern III, 52, of 20 Flat Swamp Road was driving a 2013 Toyota Prius westward on Glover Avenue at about 4:10 pm on January 30, when the vehicle drifted to the left and struck a portable crosswalk sign that was positioned in the middle of the road on a painted crosswalk.

There were no injuries. Police said they verbally warned Doern for failure to drive to the right.

Dodgingtown Crash

A two-vehicle accident occurred at the signalized four-way intersection of Dodgingtown Road, Taunton Hill Road, and Jacklin Road on January 18, according to police.

Police said that motorist Patrick Ness III, 23, of Bethel, who was driving a 2001 Kia Sephia sedan southward on Dodgingtown Road, failed to obey the signal and then collided with motorist Jon Fermin, 28, of Bethel, who was driving a 2004 Honda CRV SUV, which was traveling westward from Taunton Hill Road toward Jacklin Road.

There were no injuries. Police said they issued Ness an infraction for failure to obey a traffic control signal.

Berkshire Collision

Police report a two-vehicle accident on Berkshire Road near its four-way intersection with Lone Oak Meadows Road and Johnny Appleseed Drive about 7:12 am on January 31.

Police said that motorist Ana Rodriguez, 43, of 81 Berkshire Road, who was driving a 2001 Nissan Maxima sedan, was exiting the driveway at that address and then collided with motorist Daniel Fandrick, 35, of Seymour, who was driving a 2007 Subaru Impreza sedan on Berkshire Road.

There were no injuries. Police said they verbally warned Rodriguez for failure to grant the right of way.

Queen Street Accident

At about 7:18 am on January 31, motorist Claude Yoder, 45, of Simsbury, who was driving a 2013 Audi S-6 sedan, was attempting to exit the northernmost driveway at Newtown Middle School at 11 Queen Street to make a right turn to go northward on Queen Street, as motorist Peter McNulty, 60, of 8 Settlers Lane was driving a 2004 Acura RSX coupe northward on Queen Street, police said.

The two vehicles collided. There were no injuries. Police said they gave Yoder a written warning for failure to grant the right of way.

Sandy Hook Center

Police report that at about 12:20 pm on January 30, motorist Scott Graham, 33, of West Haven was driving a 2010 Nisan Sentra coupe northward on Washington Avenue and then slowed in preparing to make a right turn onto Crestwood Drive, after which the Nissan was struck from behind by a northbound 2007 Saab 9-3 T sedan driven by Samuel Rathbun, 25, of West Hartford.

There were no injuries. Rathbun received a written warning for following too closely, police said.

Two MV Charges

Police report that they stopped motorist Henrique Pena, 44, of Danbury about 2:40 am on February 2 to investigate near 180 South Main Street.

Police charged Pena with driving under suspension and with failure to illuminate a rear marker plate.

After processing, Pena was released on $100 bail for a February 18 court appearance.

Chevy Vs Guardrail

At about 7:50 am on January 30, motorist Evelyn Cepeda-Pujos, 30, of Derby was driving a 2005 Chevrolet Equinox SUV on the Exit 11 on-ramp for eastbound Interstate 84, when she lost control of the vehicle in icy conditions and then struck some metal guardrailing, state police said.

The driver was transported to Danbury Hospital for treatment of injuries, state police said. She received an infraction for traveling too fast for conditions, state police said.

Multiple Impacts

Motorist John J. Jurgielewicz IV, 44, of Monroe was driving a 1997 Land Rover Discovery SUV eastward near 15 Meadow Brook Road about 5:48 pm on February 3, when the vehicle slid on the snow-covered road and went off the right road shoulder, striking a utility pole, police said.

The vehicle then reentered the road and went off the left road shoulder, striking two trees near the driveway for 20 Meadowbrook Road, police said.

Jurgielewicz was not injured. Police issued him a written warning for traveling too fast for conditions.

Honda Vs Cadillac

Motorist Clifton Bishop, 62, of Trumbull was driving a 2001 Cadillac STS sedan southward on a snow-covered Hattertown Road about 4:25 pm on February 3, as motorist Derek Baxter, 23, of 8 Arthur’s Court was driving a 2005 Honda Civic sedan eastward on Purdy Station Road and approaching its intersection with Hattertown Road, police said.

The Honda attempted to stop for a stop sign at the intersection, but slid on the roadway and collided with the Cadillac, after which the Cadillac slid off the road and struck a wooden fence, according to police.

There were no injuries. Police said they issued Baxter an infraction for traveling too fast for conditions.

Three-Vehicle DUI MVA

Police report a three-vehicle accident on Sugar Street near its eastern intersection with Baldwin Road about 5:14 pm on January 30.

Police said the accident involved motorist Sean Miers, 34, of New Milford, who was driving a 1997 Mitsubishi Mirage coupe; motorist Michael Shelter, 57, of Bethel, who was driving a 2000 Ford Focus sedan; and motorist Kerry Gulick, 52, of 44 Brookwood Drive, who was driving a 2011 Volvo XC-60 sedan.

Miers and Shelter were injured in the accident, police said.

After investigating, police charged Miers with driving under the influence, possession of drug paraphernalia, failure to have automotive insurance, making a restricted turn, and failure to renew a driver’s license.

Police said they released Miers on $2,500 bail for a February 14 arraignment in Danbury Superior Court.

Berkshire DUI

Police report that motorist John Cunningham, 53, of 26 Honey Lane was driving a 2013 Chevrolet Equinox SUV eastward on Berkshire Road, near its intersection with Zoar Road, about 11 pm on February 4, when the vehicle went off the right road shoulder, struck a tree and then reentered the roadway. Cunningham was not injured.

After investigating, police charged Cunningham with driving under the influence and with making a restricted turn. Police said they released him on $500 bail for a February 19 court appearance.

Toyota DUI

At about 11:09 am on February 5, police responded to a report of a motor vehicle accident on Berkshire Road, near its intersection with Lone Oak Meadow Road and Johnny Appleseed Drive.

Police said they encountered a Toyota Tundra pickup truck that was partially off the road and positioned up against a snowbank at the driveway for 87 Berkshire Road.

After investigating, police charged motorist Robert Louis Abric III, 42, of that address with driving under the influence and with making a restricted turn. Police said Abric was scheduled to appear in court on the charges on February 6.
