Gymnasts Seventh In State Meet; Jannott Best On Beam

Newtown High School’s gymnastics team placed seventh in the Class L state championship meet, at Pomperaug High in Southbury, on February 28. The Nighthawks scored 125.375 points; Southington won the competition with a score of 139.125.

Anna Jannott had the best score on the balance beam, a 9.025, among competitors from all eight schools. She also scored an 8.4 on the vault, a 7.925 on the bars, and an 8.825 for her floor exercise.  Sammie Gilbert had an 8.2 on the vault and an 8.0 on the floor. Maddie Jannott recorded an 8.050 on the vault, a 7.225 on bars, a 7.050 on the beam, and an 8.550 for her floor performance. Cam Vazquez scored an 8.025 on the vault, a 7.050 on the bars, a 7.2 on the beam, and an 8.750 on the floor. Liz Marcinek scored a 6.350 on the bars and a 6.750 on the beam.
