State AFL-CIO President To Address Newtown’s Democrats

The Newtown Democratic Town Committee welcomes Connecticut AFL-CIO President John Olsen to its monthly meeting at 8 pm on Thursday, March 10, in the Alexandria Room of Edmond Town Hall, 45 Main Street.

Most recently reelected in September 2001, Mr Olsen was serving as the AFL-CIO’s Secretary-Treasurer, the second-highest ranking position in the statewide labor movement, when he was first elected president of the state labor federation in 1988.

Under his leadership, the AFL-CIO’s commitment to political education, legislative action, grassroots organizing, and community mobilization has strengthened organized labor’s voice as an advocate for all of Connecticut’s working families.

A native of Greenwich, Mr Olsen also served as chairman of Connecticut’s Democrats from 2000 to 2002.

The meeting is open to the public and the Democratic Town Committee urges area Democrats to attend.
