Alcohol Violation

Alcohol Violation

Police report that they were dispatched to Glen Road, near its intersection with Church Hill Road, to investigate a noise complaint at about 12:43 am on February 26.

Police said they encountered several teenagers in the area, adding that they issued one teenager there an infraction for illegal alcohol possession by an underage person.

Because the person charged is under age 18, police did not disclose their identity.

Copper Theft

Police report that sometime between the evening of February 1 and the morning of February 15, someone stole more than 450 feet of copper cabling from a large cable spool located at an industrial site at 11 Edmond Road.

The missing copper cable is about two inches in diameter. Police Patrol Officer Maryhelen McCarthy, who is investigating the theft, asks anyone with information on the incident to contact her at the police station at 3 Main Street, telephone 203-426-5841.

Botsford Hill Road

About 9:49 pm on February 23, motorist Daniel Donatacci, 30, of Cambridge, Mass., was driving a 2007 Toyota Yaris eastward near 24 Botsford Hill Road, when while negotiating a curve in the road, the Toyota went off the right side of the street and climbed up an embankment, police said.

Donatacci was not injured. Police said they issued him a written warning for making a restricted turn.

Sandy Hook Collision

Police report a two-vehicle accident at the intersection of Washington Avenue, Church Hill Road, Glen Road, and Riverside Road about 3:21 pm on February 23.

Motorist Courtney Amaral, 17, of 44 Riverside Road, who was driving a 2001 Toyota Tacoma pickup truck, had a green traffic signal at that intersection and was attempting to make a left turn from northbound Washington Avenue onto westbound Church Hill Road, police said.

At that time, motorist Gregory Williamson, 17, of 9 Bridge End Farm Lane, who was driving a 2002 Mercedes-Benz E-Class station wagon, had a green traffic signal at the intersection and was attempting to drive straight through the intersection from southbound Glen Road onto southbound Washington Avenue, police said. 

The two vehicles collided. There were no injuries. Police said they issued Amaral a written warning for failure to grant the right of way.

Obtuse Road

At about 3:48 pm on February 22, Jessica Abney, 30, of Brookfield was driving 2011 Bluebird school bus owned by the Town of Brookfield eastward on Obtuse Road, police said.

At that time, Michael Pickering, 28, of Torrington was driving a commercial 2011 Ford Econoline van westward there, police said.

Police said the school bus entered the road’s opposite lane and the two vehicles’ left exterior rear-view mirrors collided. There were no injuries. Police said they issued Abney a motor vehicle warning for a lane violation.

Flagpole Intersection

Police report a two-vehicle accident at the flagpole intersection on Main Street about 3:44 pm February 22.

Motorist Carolyn Signorelli, 46, of 18 Chimney Swift Road, who was driving a 2007 Dodge Caravan minivan, was waiting at a stop sign on westbound Church Hill Road, as motorist Joel Gomes, 44, of Monroe was driving a 2004 Ford Mustang coupe southward on Main Street, according to police.

The Dodge then entered the intersection in order to travel straight across Main Street to West Street, but collided with Ford, police said.

There were no injuries. Police said they issued Signorelli a written warning for failure to grant the right of way.

Intersection Crash

A two-vehicle accident occurred at the for-way intersection of Hattertown Road, Poverty Hollow Road, and Key Rock Road about 5 pm on February 22, police report.

The accident involved motorist Hans Frey, 47, of 2 Echo Valley Road, who was driving a 2008 Audi A-6 sedan, and motorist Michael Perkins, 24, of Trumbull, who was driving a 2009 Volkswagen Jetta sedan, police said. There were no injuries. Police said they issued Frey a written warning for failure to obey a stop sign.

Minivan Impact

Motorist James Hodson, 48, of Monroe was driving a 2000 Nissan Quest minivan eastward near 90 Mt Pleasant Road on February 23, when a deer ran out onto the street and collided with the vehicle, police said. Hodson was not injured. Police said they issued Hodson an infraction for driving an unregistered vehicle.

 

Mt Pleasant Accident

About 6:30 pm on February 22, motorist William Bruno, 41, of 1 Borough Lane was driving a 1991 Mercury Marquis sedan on Mt Pleasant Road, when motorist Jose Ribeiro, 45, of Brookfield, who was driving a 2008 Subaru Legacy sedan, pulled out of a commercial parking lot at 147 Mt Pleasant Road and collided with the Mercury, police said.

There were no injuries. Police said they issued Ribeiro a written warning for failure to grant the right of way.

Business Burglary

Police report that at about 11:24 pm on February 26, they responded to Cave Comics at 57 Church Hill Road after a burglar alarm there had been triggered by someone.

The front door of the business had been forced open, but nothing appeared to be missing from the premises, police said. Police ask anyone with knowledge of the incident to contact investigating Officer Richard Monckton at the police station.

NHS Drugs

At about 2:10 pm on February 25, police responded to Newtown High School, 12 Berkshire Road, after receiving a report that school officials had detained a youth there who was in possession of marijuana.

Police said they charged the girl with possession of marijuana, after which she was released into the custody of a parent on a written promise to appear in Danbury Youthful Offender Court on March 14. Because the person arrested is under age 18, her identity is shielded from disclosure by state law.

Riverside Road

About 11:30 pm on February 22, motorist Forest Gajdosik, 29, of 10 Locust Drive was driving a 2000 Chevrolet Blazer SUV eastward near 86 Riverside Road, when he struck a snowbank alongside the road’s westbound shoulder, police said.

The vehicle then crossed back over the road and went off the eastbound shoulder, striking a stone wall, police said. The accident is under investigation, police report.

 

South Main Rear-Ender

Motorist Christopher Dessureau, 26, of Naugatuck, who was driving a commercial 2010 Ford F-150 pickup truck at about 1:16 pm February 24, was waiting in traffic to make a left turn near 151 South Main Street, when the Ford was struck from behind by motorist Heather Johnson, 20, of 67 Walnut Tree Hill Road, who was driving a 1997 Jeep Wrangler SUV, police said.

Dessureau claimed shoulder pain, but refused medical attention, police said.

Police said Johnson received a written warning for traveling too fast for conditions. Police said they issued Dessureau an infraction for driving without a license.

Pine Tree Hill Road

Police said they received a report about 6:13 pm on February 27 concerning a motor vehicle accident that occurred on Pine Tree Hill Road, in which a motorist involved in the incident had allegedly left the scene.

Police said that they then located James Tranberg, no age given, of Trumbull in Trumbull and charged him with evading responsibility in connection with the incident. Police said they released Tranberg on $80 bail for a March 9 court appearance.

Hanover Road

Police report that they responded to a burglar alarm at a home on Hanover Road, near Papoose Hill Road, at about 12:34 pm on February 25. Police said they discovered evidence of forced entry into the premises via a rear door.

The burglar or burglars had left the scene before police arrived. Initially, nothing was reported as missing from the house, police said. Anyone who noticed suspicious activity in that area at that time is asked to contact the detective unit of the police department at 203-426-5841.

MV Violations

Police report that while conducting a seatbelt compliance checkpoint on Berkshire Road, near Wasserman Way, about noon on February 24, they stopped motorist Andrade Widison, 36, of Danbury to check on whether the automotive window tints on his vehicle complied with applicable regulations.

The window tints were determined to be out of compliance, police said.

Police charged Widison with a window tint violation and with driving with a suspended license.

Widison was released on $500 bail for a March 10 court appearance.

School Bus

Police report that at about 2:19 pm on February 24, Theodore Hunt, 45, of Waterbury was driving a town-owned 2005 Ford F-550 truck eastward on Schoolhouse Hill Road, near its intersection with Hanover Road, as school bus driver Tracy Degenhardt, 43, of 32 Engleside Terrace was driving a 2008 school bus, which was carrying about 32 students from Newtown Middle School and Newtown High School, westward on Schoolhouse Hill Road.

The roadway’s width was reduced at that time due to the presence of snowbanks along its sides, police said.

The school bus stopped to allow the truck to pass by, but as the truck moved past the bus, the left side of the truck struck a retractable stop sign positioned on the left side of the bus, police said.

There were no injuries. Police took no enforcement.

Three Vehicles

Police report a three-vehicle accident on eastbound Berkshire Road, near its intersection with Liberty Drive, at about 1 pm on February 25.

Motorist Mary Jaeger, 42, of 242 Berkshire Road, who was driving a 1997 Honda Civic coupe, stopped for traffic conditions, after which a 2007 Nissan Maxima sedan driven by Damaris Flores, 44, of Shelton, stopped behind the Honda coupe, police said.

Motorist Kirsten Dennean, 21, of Haddam, who was driving a 2003 Honda Civic sedan, attempted to stop, but struck the rear end of the Nissan, pushing the Nissan into the rear end of the Honda coupe, police said.

Dennean reported an injury and was evaluated at the scene, but refused medical transport, police said. Police said they gave Dennean an infraction for following too closely.

Botsford Accident

Police report an accident involving a town-owned snowplow truck, which was performing snow removal, and a pickup truck at about 7:30 am February 21 at the intersection of South Main Street and Meadowbrook Road.

Police said a town-owned 1990 Autocar dump truck with a snowplow attached to it, which was driven by Joseph Pratt, 53, of 4 Meadowbrook Road, had just completed plowing the eastbound lane of Meadowbrook Road and was in the process of turning around on South Main Street in order to head westward on Meadow Brook Road.

While it was maneuvering, the Autocar backed up and struck a 2008 Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck driven by Kenneth Tardie, 47, of 13 Lazybrook Road, police said.

The Chevrolet had been following the snowplow truck eastward on Meadowbrook Road and had intended to make a right turn onto southbound South Main Street, police said.

There were no injuries. Police said they verbally warned Pratt for unsafe backing.

Hawleyville Incident

Police report that motorist Alexa Faeth, 21, of Woodbury had been driving a 2010 Hyundai Elantra sedan northward on Hawleyville Road, near its intersection with Obtuse Road, at about 1 am on February 24, when the vehicle went off the right side of the street and rolled over on a snowbank.

Police said that Faeth was not at the accident scene when they arrived there, but later spoke to police and explained that she was not injured. The vehicle received heavy damage, police said.

The incident is under investigation.

Two Charges

Police report they stopped motorist Leonel Rodriguez, 31, of Bridgeport about 11:20 pm on February 28 on South Main Street, near its intersection with Bryan Lane, to investigate.

Police said they charged Rodriguez with a headlamp violation and with driving with a suspended license.

Rodriguez was released on $200 bail for a March 15 court appearance.

DUI Incident

Police said they received a report about 6:28 pm on March 2 concerning an erratic driver traveling in the Key Rock Road area, so they went to investigate.

Police said they located motorist Kenneth Owens, 55, of Redding in the Juniper Road area, after which they stopped his vehicle and gave him field sobriety tests. Police said they charged Owens with driving under the influence, failure to drive to the right, and driving with a suspended license.

Owens was released on $500 bail for a March 16 appearance in Danbury Superior Court.

 

Copper Missing

Police are investigating the theft of two reels of copper wiring from the Walgreens Pharmacy construction site on the northern corner of South Main Street and Mile Hill Road.

The copper wiring was stolen from the premises sometime between February 26 and 28, police said.
