Pieced Art: Works By Morna Crites-Moore

DANBURY — Sadelier is presenting “Pieced Art: Works By Morna Crites-Moore,” an exhibition of felted wool works by the local artist Morna Crites-Moore, until March 15.

With a masters in journalism and a history in photography, Morna Crites-Moore’s past seemingly contrasts her present passion for working with fiber. Fascinated by sewing and knitting from a very early age, Ms Crites-Moore began experimenting with felted wool over ten years ago in the form of heart shaped pins and star shaped tree ornaments.

Her raw material of choice – felted wool from abandoned sweaters – was gathered from a variety of sources as well as donated by her mother and friends. A natural progression led her toward creating unique pieces that were more at home framed on a wall than pinned to one’s shirt.

Composed of small squares of wool felt and embellished with needlework and antique buttons, her pieces blend the line between folk art and fine art.

Ms Crites-Moore’s work is shown in numerous craft and folk art shows including the noteworthy “Wilton Historical Society Celebration of American Artistry.” Her work has also been selected to appear in such magazines as Family Circle Holiday Crafts and numerous issues of Country Living, as well as several Country Living books.
