Ethan Cox scored a hat-trick and Domenic Cartelli netted two goals to help Newtown High School hockey team to a 6-5 win over Wethersfield-Rocky Hill-Middletown at Danbury Ice Arena on March 5.

Cartelli broke a 5-5 deadlock on a slap shot from just inside the blue line with just 19 seconds left in regulation. The win pushed Newtown (4-16 overall) into 16th place in the Division III rankings, apparently sealing the final seed in the playoff bracket. The Connecticut Interscholastic Athletic Conference is scheduled to announce the official playoff seedings and matchups before noon on March 7.

Jack Hanley also scored, and goaltender Nicholas Chaloux made 31 saves for the Nighthawks. The Hawks trailed 1-0 after one period of play before scoring five straight goals. They had four in the second period alone, three of which came in a span of 1:02. The Wethersfield-led team clawed back with four consecutive goals of its own before Cartelli got the game-winner.
