Gentrification By Regulation, No Way!

To The Editor:

I’ve had it with the Newtown pseudo-snobs whose families came over on the Mayflower!

These people are the ones who for 30 years have held back on putting sewers into the lakefront communities because the sewers would bring permanence to these areas which they wanted to keep unstable. Now they have created the ultimate insult to our hard working down town resident in the form of a bogus upzoning regulation that has “zero” justification in fact.

Yes, we are mostly working class stiffs who, by fortune or accident, found our own little paradise on the banks of Lake Zoar. My neighbors and I have let them run Newtown any way they wanted up to now. In looking back, we should have gotten involved but we didn’t. Newtown’s officials took 100 percent of our tax dollars willingly, spent it the way they wanted and gave us back pennies on our dollars.

We are so mad that we are considering breaking away from Newtown and founding the incorporated town of Sandy Hook, CT.

If all we are going to get is lip service and broken promises by our town fathers, we would be much better off managing our own affairs. At least we will know and will control where our tax dollars are being put to use.
