High School Drug Sale
High School Drug Sale
Police made two drug-related arrests at Newtown High School on the morning of March 18 in connection with the alleged sale of a prescription drug.
Students Matthew Selezan, 16, of 10 Hedge Meadow Lane, and Robert Marus, 16, of 25 Pepperidge Road were observed acting suspiciously in a boysâ rest room at the school, police said.
Following an investigation, police charged Selezan with possession of a controlled substance, and with sale of a controlled substance. Police charged Marus with possession of a controlled substance.
Following arrest processing at the police station, police released both youths on written promises to appear April 13 in Danbury Superior Court.
Van Accident
Motorist Jaime Cabrera, 23, of Cliffside Park, N.J., who was driving a 2000 GMC Savanna van eastward on Route 302 at about 9 am March 17, lost control of the vehicle on the icy roadway while negotiating a curve near Drummers Lane and struck a rock along the westbound road shoulder, police said. Cabrera was not injured. Police issued a written warning for traveling too fast for conditions.
Audi Into Trees
At about 5 pm March 18, motorist Matthew Spak, 40, of 24 Edgelake Drive, Riverside, was driving a 1996 Audi A-6 sedan southward on Glen Road, police said. While negotiating a curve near 60 Glen Road, the Audi went out of control, skidded, and struck some trees along the northbound road shoulder, police report.
Spak was not injured. Police issued a written warning for failure to drive to the right on a curve.
Route 302 Collision
Motorist Chris Socci, 17, of 18 Crossbrook Road, who was driving a 1994 Subaru station wagon southward on Scudder Road on March 18, failed to yield at a stop sign at Scudder Roadâs intersection with Route 302 and then collided with a 1991 Acura Integra coupe that was being driven westward on Route 302 by motorist Diane McCafferty, 47, of 30 Honey Lane, police said.
Socci and McCafferty, plus Louis Markoya, 47, of 30 Honey Lane, who was a passenger in the Acura, were all transported to Danbury Hospital for treatment of injuries, police report.
Police issued Socci an infraction ticket for failure to grant the right of way at a stop sign and for traveling on an unsafe tire.
Town Center Accident
An accident took place at the Main Street flagpole about 9:30 am March 10. The crash involved motorist Roger Cyr, 30, of 21 Appleblossom Lane, who was driving a 1994 Oldsmobile 98 sedan, and motorist Jeremy Rathbun, 26, of Winooski, Vt., who was driving a 2004 Ford sport-utility vehicle, police said. There were no injuries. Police said both men received written warnings.
Weapon Charge
Police report that on the morning of March 20 they were called to investigate a report of a suspiciously parked vehicle in a driveway at an Algonquin Trail residence in Cedarhurst. Police said they saw a handgun in that motor vehicle. That handgun later was identified a BB-gun, police said.
Police charged Ross Alpert, 19, of 16 Middleton Road with possession of a weapon in motor vehicle. Police released Alpert on a promise to appear April 7 in Danbury Superior Court.
Passport Found
On March 19, police received for safekeeping a passport, which was found on South Main Street. The Brazilian passport belongs to a person by the name of âHelon de Cerqueira Soares,â police said. Anyone with information on the matter is asked to contact police at 3 Main Street, telephone 426-5841.
Mazda Off Road
While driving a 1998 Mazda 626 sedan southward on Platts Hill Road about 1 am March 21, motorist Adam Seferi, 16, of 20 Meadow Brook Road, Botsford, was taking a curve to the left and lost control, went off the right side of the street near 56 Platts Hill Road and struck some large rocks, police said. The Mazda rolled over on impact.
Seferi was not injured, police report. Police issued him an infraction ticket on charges of traveling unreasonably fast for conditions and for failure to have automotive insurance. A court appearance is slated for March 31.
Subaru Vs Fencing
Motorist Christopher Nemier, 25, of Hamden was driving a 1994 Subaru Legacy eastward on Chestnut Hill Road during a snowstorm at about 5 pm March 16, when while trying to negotiate a right curve, the Subaru slid across the roadway and struck some fencing along the westbound road shoulder at 25 Chestnut Hill Road, police report.
Nemier was not injured. Police said Nemier failed to drive to the right on a curve.
Tractor-Trailer
Trucker Thomas Doty, 45, of East Hampton, who was driving a tractor-trailer truck westward on Church Hill Road, was making a left turn onto Commerce Road at about 12:30 pm March 19, when the truckâs trailer struck a 2001 Chevrolet that was stopped at a red traffic signal on Commerce Road, police said. The Chevrolet was driven by John Viola, 59, of 7 Thunder Ridge Road, police said.
There were no injuries. Police said Doty made an improper turn.
Hattertown MVA
Motorist Ellen Aho, 42, of 81 Taunton Hill Road, who was driving a 2002 Volvo V-70 station wagon, was stopped on southbound Hattertown Road and was waiting to turn left into a driveway at about 10:40 am March 17, when the Volvo was struck from behind by motorist Emily Tomasiewicz, 16, of 29 Eden Hill Road, who was driving a 1989 Ford Taurus, police said.
Tomasiewicz was transported to Danbury Hospital on a report of pain, police said. The accident is under investigation.
Warrant Arrest
On March 20, police arrested James Johann, 41, of Norwalk on a warrant listing charges of failure to appear in court, driving under the influence, driving under suspension, and improper passing, police said.
Last November 21, Johann had passed an unmarked police car at the intersection of Routes 25 and 302 and then proceeded at high speed northward on Route 25, police have said. Police then stopped Johann to investigate and smelled alcohol, after which they gave him field sobriety testing and filed the original motor vehicles charges.
After posting $1,000 bail, police released Johann for an April 6 court appearance.

Past Incident
After learning that police held a warrant for his arrest, on the afternoon of March 21, Matthew DeLuca, 17, of 2 Elm Drive, turned himself over to police and was charged with failure to respond to an infraction, trespassing on railroad property, and improper parking, in connection with an incident last year. DeLuca posted $181 bail and was released for an April 7 court appearance.
MV Charges
On the afternoon of March 21, police stopped motorist Abhay V. Dharkar, 35, of Hamden on Route 34 to investigate because Dharkar had nonreflectivized marker plates on the vehicle. Police then filed charges of driving under suspension and failure to display reflectivized marker plates. Dharkar was released on a written promise to appear in court on April 6.
Chevrolet Vs Mercury
Motorist Karen Kowtko, 46, of Southbury, who was driving a 1999 Mercury Sable, stopped on the Exit 11 off-ramp of Interstate 84 directly behind a stopped 1992 Chevrolet pickup truck, which was driven by Jeffrey Roche, 27, of Danbury at about 5 pm March 19, state police said.
The Chevrolet then backed up in order to change lanes, but collided with the front end of the Mercury, state police said. There were no injuries. State police issued Roche a written warning for unsafe backing.
Auto Hits Rail
Motorist Lisa Coddington, 37, of Beacon, N.Y., was driving a 1996 Chevrolet sedan eastward on Interstate 84 at about 9:15 pm March 16, when the auto struck some guardrailing, state police report. Coddington was not injured. State police said they verbally warned Cardington for traveling unreasonably fast.
Mitsubishi Mishap
At about 6:50 pm March 16, motorist Fred OâBrien, 44, of Middletown, N.Y., was driving a 2002 Mitsubishi westward on Interstate 84, west of Exit 9, when he applied the brakes to slow for another vehicle, but slid off the roadway, state police said.Â
OâBrien was not injured. State police took no enforcement.
Subaru Vs Toyota
State police report a two-vehicle accident on westbound Interstate 84, about 2,500 feet west of Exit 9, at about 4:40 pm March 16.
Motorist Wilfredo Morales, 47, of Waterbury, who was driving a 2003 Toyota pickup truck, lost control of the truck and went into a spin, striking motorist Ula Y. Hwang, 33, of Wappingers Falls, N.Y., who was driving a 2002 Subaru Outback, state police said. There were no injuries. State police said Morales failed to drive in the established lane.
High School Assault
Police report that on the morning of March 22, Newtown High School student Craig Hayes, 17, of 40 Great Hill Road became involved in a verbal dispute with an unidentified student at the high school.
The altercation escalated and Hayes tackled the victim and then punched the victim in the jaw, breaking a tooth of the victim, police said. Police then arrested Hayes on a charge of third degree assault.
After processing the case, police released Hayes for an April 1 appearance in Danbury Superior Court.
MV Charges
On March 22, police stopped motorist Ciro Flores of Monroe to investigate and then charged Flores with driving an unregistered vehicle, driving without a license, and driving without automotive insurance, police said. Police later released Flores on $250 bail for an April 6 court appearance.
Alcohol Charge
Police said they arrested Scott Pharo, 32, of 59 Algonquin Trail on March 24, charging him with disorderly conduct and with walking in the road while under the influence. Police said they made the arrest on Bennetts Bridge Road, near Jeremiah Road. Pharo was unable to post bail, so he was arraigned court that day, police said.
Hawleyville MVA
Motorist Glenn Atkinson, 42, of 5 Pocono Road, who was driving a 1995 Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck, and motorist Ramesh Jhawar, 53, of Brookfield, who was driving a 2001 Honda Accord, were involved in a motor vehicle accident about 11:30 am March 20 at the intersection of Pocono Road and Old Hawleyville Road, police said.
Ramesh Jhawar and Uma Jhawar, 47, of Brookfield, who was a passenger in the Honda, were transported to Danbury Hospital for treatment of injuries, police said.
Police issued Atkinson an infraction ticket for failure to grant the right of way and for operating a vehicle with ineffective brakes.
Philo Curtis Crash
Motorist Keith Hay, 54, of 75 Cedar Hill Road was backing a 2000 Nissan Altima out of a driveway at 40 Philo Curtis Road about 8 am March 17, when a 1995 Chevrolet Suburban driven by David Kulp, 47, of 64 Jeremiah Road was approaching, police said. The vehicles collided. There were no injuries. Police issued Hay an infraction ticket for failure to grant the right of way.
Volvo Vs Mitsubishi
Police report a two-car accident at the intersection of Berkshire Road and Wasserman Way about 6 pm March 23.
Motorist James King, 56, of Yorktown Heights, N.Y., who was driving a 2003 Mitsubishi Galant westward on Berkshire Road, slowed for a red traffic signal, and was then struck from behind by Matthew Lynch, 21, of 267 Berkshire Road, who was driving a 1997 Volvo 850 sedan, police said. There were no injuries. Police issued Lynch an infraction ticket for failure to drive a reasonable distance apart.
Two-Vehicle Collision
Motorist Kathleen Hayes, 57, of Danbury, who was driving a 2000 Toyota Corolla westward on Berkshire Road, slowed for another vehicle near 91 Berkshire Road at about 6:45 pm March 23, and was struck from behind by motorist Janis Solheim, 47, of 11 Harvest Common Road, who was driving a 1998 Ford Windstar, police said.
There were no injuries. Police issued Solheim a written warning for failure to drive a reasonable distance apart.
Wasserman Way
At about 1 pm March 20, Laura Warren, 46, of 5 Sutherland Drive, who was driving a 1998 Honda CRV, was stopped for a red traffic signal on westbound Wasserman Way, police said. Motorist Jeffrey Peters, 20, of 9 Arrowhead Lane, who was driving a 1992 Ford Escort, was stopped behind the Honda, police said.
The Ford then accidentally struck the rear end of the Honda, police said. There were no injuries. Newtown Hook and Ladder firemen cleaned up an automotive fluids spill at the accident. Police issued Peters a written warning for following too closely.
Warrant
On March 24, police arrested Robert Pixley, 22, of 48 Bear Hills Road on a warrant, charging him with second degree failure to appear in court and with driving under suspension. The motor vehicle charge stems from a 2003 incident. After posting a $750 bond, police released Pixley for an April 7 court appearance.
Drug Charges
Police report that on March 24, they charged Richard Lee Pulver, 18, of 89 Poverty Hollow Road with possession of narcotics, possession of less than four ounces of marijuana, and possession of drug paraphernalia. The arrest involves two investigations. Other details were not available.Â
