Rita Marie Medve

Rita M. (Hannowell) Medve, 83, of 67 Brushy Hill Road, Newtown, died on March 29. She was the wife of Bertram Medve, to whom she had been married for 64 years.

Mrs Medve was born in Waterbury, December 29, 1918, a daughter of Ralph and Anne (McCormick) Hannowell of Bridgeport. She attended Bridgeport schools.

After marriage, the family lived the next 27 years in Fairfield. Rita was a secretary at Fairfield University until she retired to join her husband, who had been transferred to Arkansas.

On his retirement they came back to Connecticut to be near their children who both lived in Newtown. Mr and Mrs Medve lived the past 23 years in Newtown.

Mrs Medve was fond of golf and was a longtime member of the Newtown Country Club. She was also an avid gardener and loved to sing.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by a son, Richard Medve of West Ossippee, N.H.; a daughter, Patricia Bailey of Newtown; a sister, Irene Hannowell Watson of Rolla, Mo.; and eight grandchildren.

Funeral services were held April 3 at the Honan Funeral Home, 58 Main Street, Newtown.

Interment was at the convenience of the family.
