Acura Vs Subaru

On the night of March 11, motorist Casey Leigh Rutter, 17, of 15 Clapboard Ridge Road, who was driving a 2003 Acura MDX SUV, was backing out of a parking space in the parking lot at Newtown High School at 12 Berkshire Road, when the Acura struck an adjacent parked, unoccupied 2005 Subaru Legend sedan, police report.

There were no injuries. Police took no enforcement.

Rear-Ender

About 1:16 pm on March 19, motorist Scott Ambrose, 43, of Highland, N.Y., who was driving a 2008 Dodge Caravan minivan westward on Mt Pleasant Road (Route 6), stopped in order to make a left turn onto Taunton Lane, police said.

Westbound motorist Kelly Burton, 17, of 107 Glen Road, who was driving a 1998 Nissan Altima, then struck the rear end of the Dodge, according to police.

There were no injuries, police said. Burton received an infraction for failure to drive a reasonable distance apart, according to police.

Church Hill Collision

Police report a two-vehicle collision near 53 Church Hill Road about 6 pm March 23.

Motorist Andrea Galvao, 19, of Bethel was driving a 2001 Ford station wagon eastward and then came to a stop, after which the Ford was struck from behind by eastbound motorist Katharine Townsend, 17, of West Street, who was driving a 2006 Saturn sedan, police report.

There were no injuries. Townsend received a written warning for failure to drive a reasonable distance apart, police said.

Vehicle Damaged

Police are investigating an incident in which someone vandalized an unspecified vehicle that was parked at the Newtown High School parking lot between 6 pm on March 24 and noon on March 27. Someone damaged that vehicle by intentionally scratching it, police said. Police ask anyone with knowledge of who committed the third-degree criminal mischief to contact Officer John McCluskey at the police station at 203-426-5841.

Street Vandalism

Sometime between 5 pm on March 27 and noon on March 28, someone vandalized a section of roadway on Charter Ridge Drive in Sandy Hook, police report. The vandalism involved the depiction of male genitals on the pavement, police said.

The vandal placed the graffiti on Charter Ridge Drive near its intersection with Canterbury Road, police said. Police ask anyone with knowledge of who committed the second-degree criminal mischief to contact investigating Officer Charles Guernsey at 203-426-5841.

Intersection

Police report a motor vehicle accident at the hazardous intersection of Riverside Road, Philo Curtis Road, and Narragansett Trail about 9:45 am March 27.

The accident involved motorist James Marchese, 50, of Monroe, who was driving a 2003 Chevrolet van northward on Philo Curtis Road, and motorist Matthew Cluff, 20, of 1 Smoke Rise Ridge, who was driving a 1997 Volkswagen sedan westward on Riverside Road, police said.

There were no injuries. Police said they gave Marchese an infraction for failure to obey a stop sign. Police issued Cluff an infraction for driving an unregistered vehicle.

Berkshire Road

A two-car accident occurred on Berkshire Road in front of Newtown High School about 2:09 pm March 23.

Motorist Abigail Grillo, 17, of 7 Winter Ridge Road, who was driving a 2009 Toyota Matrix, exited the school’s driveway and turned left onto Berkshire Road, but then stopped to allow a pedestrian to cross the street, police said.

Motorist Hanna Basch-Gould, 18, of 27 Gelding Hill Road, who was driving a 2001 Honda Accord sedan, also made a left turn out from the driveway and onto Berkshire Road, but then drove into the rear of the Toyota when the Toyota stopped for the pedestrian, police said.

There were no injuries. Basch-Gould received a written warning from police for failure to drive a reasonable distance apart.

Fairfield Hills Vandalism

Police report that they charged three youths in connection with a vandalism incident that occurred at the town-owned Fairfield Hills core campus on March 28.

Police learned of the matter through a complaint at about 4:45 pm, after which they went to Fairfield Hills to investigate the vandalism incident at the now-vacant Norwalk Hall, which served as a staff residence when Fairfield Hills formerly was in use as a state psychiatric hospital.

Police said they charged three people, all of whom are under age 18, with third-degree criminal mischief. Additionally, police charged one of those three people with possession of less than four ounces of marijuana.

All three are scheduled for upcoming court appearances to answer the charges. State law shields the identities of people under age 18 who are charged with crimes.

I-84 DUI

State police report they stopped motorist Anders Johnson, 34, of Naugatuck near Exit 11 of eastbound Interstate 84 about 8 pm March 26 because Johnson was driving erratically.

After investigating, state police arrested Johnson on charges of driving under the influence, failure to drive in the proper lane, and disobeying a police officer’s signal to stop.

After processing, state police released Johnson on $1,000 bail for an April 14 appearance in Danbury Superior Court.

Wet Highway

Motorist Michael Lamountain, 32, of Oakville was driving a 2003 Honda Civic in rainy, wet conditions in the left lane of two lanes on westbound Interstate 84, west of Exit 9, about 7:45 am March 26, when the Honda went off the left road shoulder and onto the highway’s median and struck some metal-beam guardrailing, state police said. Lamountain was not injured.

Honda Vs Subaru

Police report a two-vehicle accident near 225 South Main Street about 3:32 pm March 12.

Involved in the crash were motorist Anna Chamiec-Paunetto, 18, of 21 Turkey Roost Road, who was driving a 1997 Honda Accord coupe, and motorist Jason Dalton, 23, of Southbury, who was driving a 1998 Subaru Legacy station wagon, police report.

There were no injuries. Police said they issued Chamiec-Paunetto a written warning for failure to drive a reasonable distance apart.

Vandalism

Sometime between 8 am on March 27 and 7:30 am on March 28, someone intentionally damaged a curbside residential mailbox at a home on Boggs Hill Road, near its intersection with Palestine Road, according to police. Anyone with knowledge of who committed the criminal mischief is asked to contact Officer John McCluskey at 203-426-5841.

Botsford Collision

About 7:13 pm on March 29, a two-vehicle accident occurred at the intersection of South Main Street, Botsford Hill Road, and Meadow Brook Road.

The collision involved motorist Eric Sippin, 17, of 72 Great Ring Road, who was driving a commercial 2003 Toyota Tacoma pickup truck, and motorist Nasreen Tasker, 46, of Trumbull, who was driving a 2005 Buick Rendezvous, police said.

There were no injuries. Sippin received a written warning for failure to drive to the right, according to police.

Flagpole Crash

About 11:18 am on March 29, motorist Jerry Greaves, 78, of 8 Joan Drive, who was driving a 2005 Dodge Magnum station wagon southward on Main Street, attempted to make a left turn onto eastbound Church Hill Road, but struck the Main Street flagpole with the front end of the Dodge, police said. Greaves was not injured.

Police said Greaves told them that the left front roof pillar of the auto may have obstructed his view of the flagpole. Police issued Greaves a written warning for making an improper turn.
