Beekeeping Program With Observation Beehive

DERBY — The Naugatuck Valley Audubon Society, in cooperation with the Department of Environmental protection’s (DEP) Kellogg Environmental Center, will host a slide presentation and talk by Leslie Huston entitled “Beekeeping.”

The program will take place on Tuesday, April 18, at 7:30 pm.

Ms Huston is a former president of the Backyard Beekeepers Association. She will include general information on beekeeping, why bees are needed, and honeybee diseases. She will be bringing three kinds of honey for everyone to sample, as well as beeswax and wicking so children can have fun making candles.

As a special treat, attendees also will be able to watch live honeybees in an observation beehive.

The program will take place at the Kellogg Environmental Center at 500 Hawthorne Avenue. A donation of $4 per adult and $2 per student for nonmembers of the Naugatuck Valley Audubon Society is requested.

For further information, directions, or to register, phone the Kellogg Environmental Center at 734-2513.
