Head O’ Meadow Fundraiser The Biggest Ever

On Saturday, March 18, the Head O’ Meadow Elementary Parent Teacher Association held its annual dinner dance and auction at Rock Ridge Country Club in Newtown. More than 170 people attended the event, the largest attendance in the school’s history.

The night was highlighted with a variety of silent items and a live auction conducted by auctioneer Richard Coopersmith. Local band Suburban Legend played a wide variety of popular songs until late in the evening. Head O’ Meadow parent Diane Gaudett of Custom Floral Designs provided candlescapes and floral creations to add to the evenings festivities. Parent Laura Terry created a Head O’ Meadow DVD video presentation that featured photographs taken throughout the past year. The video was shown during the evening.

Local businesses, Head O’ Meadow parents and teachers all contributed items for the auction. The final portion of the live auction, anticipated by parents and teachers each year, is of art projects handmade by the students. This year, each class created a painted ceramic pitcher, decorated with fingerprints of the children in each class.

Dinner dance and auction chairperson Jennifer Scarangella and PTA President Amy Schmidt said they were thrilled with the success of the evening and the unprecedented outpouring of support from the local Newtown businesses and parents. This year’s event raised more than $35,000, which will be used for items not included in the school’s annual budget. In the past money raised at the event has been used for such items as the school defibrillators, a rock climbing wall in the gym, and new sound equipment for the cafeteria.
