Ridgefield Kitchen Tour

Will Celebrate The Heart Of The Home

RIDGEFIELD — It’s that time of year again when things heat up, especially in the kitchen.

The Ridgefield Kitchen Tour, returning on Friday, May 11, is getting underway with kitchens both new and old. The tour, which has historically been the Friday before Mother’s Day, begins at 10 am, with a special patron breakfast for patron ticket holders at 8:30 am, and runs until to 2 pm.  This year’s tour will be showcasing homes in the southern part of Ridgefield and will begin with breakfast at Bernard’s restaurant.

Who can possibly have a better kitchen then a chef? Ticket holders will find out first hand if they purchase a patron breakfast ticket ($85 for the tour and breakfast; tour tickets alone are $35 in advance or $40 the day of the tour).

Following breakfast, tourgoers will then get a special peak into the personal kitchen of Bernard’s owners Sara and Bernard Bouissou, which features Kingswood cabinetry, and a 42-inch professional series Traulson refrigerator and freezer.

The tour continues next door within a beautiful wood shingle house built whose kitchen, designed by Putnam Kitchens, includes a spectacular backsplash flown in from Israel by The Tile Shop in Ridgefield, and has everything one would need to entertain large crowds, including a built-in coffee bar. The owners of this home will also open their pool house, which also includes a fully functioning kitchen designed by Putnam.

Down the road is another house that not only entertains today’s needs but has a rich history as well. Known to many as Ward Acres, the current owners have updated yet preserved the storied estate originally built by Jack Ward in 1937. With its stately main house, stables, carriage house and outstanding grounds, Ward Acres is a one of a kind property that it is a privilege to visit.

The kitchen, designed by Bailey Avenue Kitchens, is an artful blend of old world charm and new age technology, resulting in a space that retains all the original details of this celebrated home yet brings it into the 21st Century.

Another beautiful historic home on the tour is on Main Street, known to many as “The Yellow House.”  Recent renovations retained the old while making it a fully functioning space with all of the modern day amenities.

There are a total of six kitchens on this year’s tour, which also feature kitchens done by Northeast Cabinet Design, and Bilotta Kitchens. As an added bonus, there will be samplings from many of the area caterers as well.

Proceeds from this year’s tour will benefit The Ridgefield Community Center, Maimonides Academy of Western Connecticut, ROAR and The Boys and Girls Club of Ridgefield.

Tickets can be purchased at Craig’s Fine Jewelry, Squash’s Ridgefield Office Supply and The Ridgefield Community Center, or by calling 203-645-3259.
