Sarah Casey OâSullivan, 109, of Danbury, formerly of Newtown and Red Hook, Brooklyn, N.Y., died May 2 at Hancock Hall in Danbury. A resident there for the past 16 years, she received superb and loving care. She was the wife of the late James A. OâSullivan, Sr.
Sarah was born in Red Hook, Brooklyn, N.Y., on June 18, 1894, the daughter of the late William Oliver Casey and Sarah (Johns) Casey. As a young girl, Sarah remembered watching Teddy Roosevelt lead his Rough Riders across the Brooklyn Eastern Parkway.
During World War I, she served as a Red Cross volunteer and was active in the American Legion Ladies Auxiliary. Sarah had a great love of music and dancing. In 1970, she moved from Brooklyn to Newtown to live with her son Jim, daughter-in-law Eileen, and grandsons, Jimmy and Kevin.
Ms OâSullivan was a parishioner of St Mary Church, Bethel, and was a member of the Newtown Senior Center, singing in their choral club, The Golden Notes.
She is survived by her two sons: James A. OâSullivan, Jr, of Newtown, and Thomas OâSullivan of Massapequa Park, N.Y.; nine grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.
A Mass of Christian Burial was scheduled to be celebrated on May 7 at St Mary Church, Bethel, at 10 am. Burial will be in the Long Island National Cemetery, Farmingdale, N.Y.
The family was scheduled to receive friends at the Bethel Funeral Home, 215 Greenwood Avenue, Bethel, on Thursday evening, May 6, from 6 to 9 pm.
