The Society of Creative Arts of Newtown (SCAN) has announced that in-person classes will resume in the lower level of the Newtown Meeting House, 31 Main Street, opposite the flagpole, this month.

All classes are limited to eight people maximum, so registration is requested. Masks and social distancing measures will remain in place.

Classes will meet from 9 am until noon.

Oil Painting will begin on Monday, May 17, with the local pet portraitist ShawnaLee Kwashank. Sessions will continue Mondays through June 28, skipping May 31 (Memorial Day).

Kwashank’s class will cover several aspects of the medium, including pet portraiture. Examples of her work can be viewed at shawnalee.com.

Watercolor Techniques will be led by well-known multimedia artist Adele Moros.

These classes will begin Wednesday, May 19, and continue weekly through June 23.

Moros taught fine art, including watercolors, for more than 35 years. She is a co-director of Gallery 25 in New Milford and the president of SCAN.

The cost for each class is $180 ($150 for SCAN members). Contact Moros at 203-744-7690 to register.

“Lemon Grass” is a watercolor on Yupo paper by Adele Moros, one of two teachers preparing to lead the first in-person classes for the Society of Creative Arts of Newtown since last spring.
