Never Been To Relay?

This Is Your Year!

“If you’ve never been to a Relay For Life because you haven’t been touched by cancer, or you think you don’t belong there, then it’s your year.”

This is the sentiment from 2010 Relay For Life Chair Addie Sandler. The communitywide celebration — this year themed to celebrate more birthdays to coincide with the increasing survivorship of those facing the disease — is set to open to the public at 3 pm this Saturday, June 5, at Fairfield Hills.

The public portion of the event, which will feature music, dance, a luminaria ceremony, food, games, and cancer awareness and fundraising runs, until 11:30 pm.

Further activities conclude for participating volunteers at 5 am the following morning. This year more than ever, Ms Sandler said, Newtown’s Relay For Life needs the entire community to come out to Fairfield Hills to help celebrate, particularly during the opening ceremonies at 5:30 pm. The entire schedule appears on the back page of the B-section of today’s Newtown Bee.
