Mythology Comes Alive At HOM
(with photos)
The ageless world of heroes, heroines and monsters filled the auditorium at
Head O'Meadow School, while children watched with wonder last Thursday.
From a caring Greek god to an angry Cyclops, Jeffrey Benoit, of the Young
Audiences assembly group, introduced HOM third to fifth graders to the
excitement of Greek mythology.
One moment, Odysseus was fighting the Trojan War, then he had to confront an
angry Cyclops. Not to take this sitting down, the Cyclops lunged "blindly"
into the audience, bearing down on teachers and guests alike. The crowd went
wild.
After the show many children surrounded Mr Benoit, and asked more about the
myths of ancient Greece, and especially, how he made those great masks.
He explained that to make the masks he used his face as the mold. He covered
the upper part of his face with plaster and let it set. He said that he found
it "kind of scary" to have his face covered for so long.
