State Police Plan

Sobriety Checkpoints

During the holiday weekend, state troopers will be out in full force identifying and apprehending impaired drivers, according to the Connecticut Department of Public Safety.

This will be accomplished by conducting saturation enforcement patrols and sobriety checkpoints throughout the state. The drivers of all vehicles stopped at these checkpoints will be briefly examined for signs of intoxication and compliance with state laws, according to the state police. This will include safety belts and child safety seats.

In cases where the trooper or officer detects signs of intoxication or violations, the motorist will be directed to a location out of the flow of traffic where additional investigation will be conducted. All other drivers will be permitted to resume their journey. The average delay will be approximately 20 seconds for motorists not in violation of state laws. Legally intoxicated drivers will be subject to immediate arrest.

In this area of the state, a checkpoint has been scheduled for Labor Day, September 6, in Southbury at the I-84 exit ramps at Exit 15.
