Students returned to Newtown Public Schools — with masks — on September 3, the first day of the 2020-21 school year.

With the current hybrid school model, it was the first day back in the school buildings for “Cohort A,” and “Cohort B” was set to return to the buildings Friday, September 4.

Some greetings overheard between teachers, parents, and students at Middle Gate Elementary School in the morning included, “Have a great day!” “Have fun!”, and “‘Bye, Mommy.”

The Newtown Bee invites residents to submit their favorite photos from the first day of the 2020-21 school year. Photos and descriptions — including the first and last names of those pictured, their grade level, and the school they attend — can be e-mailed to education reporter Eliza Hallabeck at eliza@thebee.com for possible inclusion in an upcoming print edition of The Newtown Bee and/or for use online at newtownbee.com.

The deadline to submit photos is noon on Tuesday, September 8.
