Smoking, Sleeping Topic Of Hospital Programs
NEW MILFORD â On Tuesday, September 8, from 6:30 to 7:30 pm, the New Milford Hospitalâs Preventive Cardiology Department begins an American Cancer Society Freshstart quit smoking program. Classes are held on Tuesday and Thursday evenings for a two-week period.
Freshstart is the American Cancer Societyâs quit smoking program, and all of the methods and activities contain the most effective elements for success. The American Cancer Society states that the single most important is element is YOU â and your dedication to fight the addiction to nicotine that makes you want to smoke.Â
This program is designed to help you stop smoking, and emphasizes that smoking cessation is a two-part process: 1) stopping and 2) staying stopped.
The cost for the program is $25 per participant, with a $5 refund for each class attended. Registration is open to the public.
In other news, research shows that even short-term sleep deprivation can be bad for your health. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration estimates that more than 200,000 crashes each year involve drivers falling asleep at the wheel.
With that in mind, on Thursday, September 10, at 6:45 pm, New Milford Hospital sleep medicine specialist Ganesh Natarajan, MD, will provide a community health forum titled âWake Up to Solutions for Better Sleep.â This lecture will be held at the New Milford Hospital Robison Conference Rooms.
Join Dr Natarajan as he discusses how much sleep is enough, provides tips on how to sleep better, and talks about the various health issues connected with sleep deprivation, and the corrective measures are available.
This program is free and open to the public.
Preregistration is requested for either or both programs by calling 800-350-1595, or on the hospital website at www.newmilfordhospital.org (go to Events section).
