Upcoming Horse Shows And Events

HORSE Seminar

HORSE of Connecticut, a non-profit horse rescue organization at 43 Wilbur Road in Washington, CT, will host a seminar called Everything About The Horse from 10 am to 2 pm on Saturday, September 12. The seminar will include Blue Seal Feeds for feed information, shoeing demonstrations by local farriers at 11 am and noon, Meadow Ridge Farm on different hay types, riding demonstrations, pet photographers, when you should call a veterinarian at 1:30 pm and a tack sale. 4-H Nutmeg Benefit Horse Show

The 2009 4-H Nutmeg Benefit Horse Show, held at the Cooperative Extension System grounds on Route 6 (Stony Hill Road) in Bethel, will be held on Sunday, September 13.

This Open Schooling show features divisions in English Equitation and Hunt Seat.

Corporate Sponsors include Fairfield County Extension Council, Beval’s Saddlery, Fairfield Equine, Bit of Tack, the Phillip H. and Christine Lodewick Foundation and Benedict’s Home and Garden.

The high point horse and rider combination from both the Spring Benefit and Fall Nutmeg shows will receive year end awards in all divisions. Sponsors of year end awards are: Sunny Brook Farm, Newtown; Clearview Farms of Sandy Hook; All the King’s Horses of Ridgefield; Happy Trails of Danbury, Silver Horseshoe Stable, Inc of Milford; Another Farm, Woodbury; and Timber Hill Farms, Newtown.   

Proof of a current rabies vaccination (within 1 year) will be checked at the gate for each animal.

MBLA

The Middlebury Bridle Lands Association Fall Hunter Pace will be on Sunday, September 20, at Larkin’s Farm, South Street in Middlebury. For information, call ShawnaLee Kwashnak at 203-598-0065.

Lion Hill

Easton’s Lion Hill Farm’s 2009 Horse Show Series dates are as follows (Sundays beginning at 8 am): September 13, October 4 and November 8.

A trophy and six ribbons will be awarded in each class and championships based on points will be awarded at the end of each division. Year-end high point awards will be presented for each division at the last show of the series. All riders must have a Riding Helmet with harness (ASTM approved). Riders must wear long pants and hard sole shoes or boots with a half-inch heel (no sneakers) and a shirt that tucks in.

Divisions include: Leadline, Micro Equitation, Junior Walk-Trot Equitation, Junior Beginner Equitation, Walk Trot Pleasure, Open Pleasure, Beginner Hunter, Maiden Equitation, Novice Equitation, Low Hunter, Adult Equitation, High Hunter, Open Equitation and Jumper.

Entry fee per class is $18. Competitors are encouraged to register by mail or phone (1020 Sport Hill Road, Easton, 06612; phone: 268-0089).

Gymkhana

Connecticut Gymkhana Association, Inc 2009 Horse Show Dates

September 20: Gymkhana – Latella’s – West Haven (9 am). NOTE: This is a change from the originally planned show in Wolcott.

October 4: Play Day – Bethany Airport, Bethany, Pot Luck event (9 am).
