Hannah Jane Martus

Hannah Jane Martus, infant daughter of John M. Martus, Jr, and Michelle (McNeill) Martus, became one of Godâs angels on August 22, at Samaritan Hospital in Watertown, N.Y., shortly after her birth.

Hannahâs mother was a graduate of Newtown High School with the Class of 1997.

Beside her parents, Hannah is survived by her paternal grandparents John M. Martus, Sr, and Linda Martus of Shelton; maternal grandparents Thomas and Kathleen McNeill of Sandy Hook; paternal great-grandfather Gilbert Kelly of Hamden; maternal great-grandmother Doris McNeill; and uncles Joseph Martus of Shelton and Brian McNeill of Sandy Hook.

A graveside service will be held on Saturday, September 6, at 11 am, in St Peterâs Cemetery Lake Road Extension, Danbury, with the Rev Richard Chambers officiating. Contributions in Hannahâs memory can be made to the March of Dimes, 385 North French Road, Suite 100 University Center, Buffalo, NY 14228.

We all know the powers that be float a high number at the voters. If they get that passed they are in hog heaven,they have plenty of fat in the original proposal.The voters will now be shamed into passing the revised budget. I say we vote it down again and see how creative they can get with the numbers.We all know plenty of fat is laced in the proposals.

I, too, love that flagpole. I approach it in the southbound lane, as Mr Gardner described, and it’s an inspiring way to start my day. In addition to all it stands for, it tells me something, whether it’s furling in the wind, or hanging quietly when weather is still, sometimes boldly majestic, sometimes sad or unsure. A gem like no other. I know it generates angst with traffic; approached with the appropriate level of caution, it should not be such a problem. Can’t really blame the flagpole, it doesn’t move. I hope it’s there long after I’m gone, and inspires others as well. Thank you Mr Gardner and all the other current, previous, and even future Keepers of the Flagpole.
