Robert H. Smith

The life of Robert Howard Smith ended September 1 at Danbury Hospital. He was a longtime resident of Newtown and was well-known in the Darien, Norwalk, Newtown, and Danbury area as “Chopper.” He will be sadly missed by his family and friends.

Mr Smith was born in Stamford, December 24, 1945, a son of the late Harold F. and Hazel M. Ferris Smith. He served in the Army during the Vietnam war and was a truck driver for 15 years for the Highway Department in Newtown.

He is survived by his wife, Hilda M. Smith; four stepchildren, all of Danbury; a brother, Harvey Smith of Norwalk; three sisters, Janie Lemon of Monroe, Marion Mead of Newtown, and Carolyn Byxbee of Bantam; two step-grandchildren; an aunt, Myrtle Ferris of Norwalk, as well as several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Praxair Cancer Center, Danbury Hospital, 24 Hospital Avenue, Danbury, CT 06810.

The funeral service was conducted from the Hull Funeral Home, 60 Division Street, Danbury, September 4, with a service at the King Street Church, Danbury. Burial was in Wooster Cemetery, Danbury.
