To the Editor:

My name is Erica Sullivan, known to many around Newtown as “The Chocolate Lady.”

I have been married to my husband, Patrick, for 19 years and together we are the lucky parents of two great kids, both of whom are enrolled in our public schools. I am also a successful local business leader (Castle Hill Chocolate), an active social justice advocate, and a member of the Newtown Business Advisory Council.

I care deeply about Newtown, which is why I am running in the 2021 election for the Board of Finance.

I believe that we all have a shared vision of a desirable, yet affordable place to call home for all of our residents; our families, seniors, and young professionals.

For Newtown, achieving that vision will depend upon following a fiscal policy grounded in budgetary discipline and a long-term capital improvement strategy. With responsible management, we can continue to prioritize our students and educators, address deterioration of our roads, manage public building maintenance, and invest in our economic development, but doing so in a more timely and cost-effective manner going forward.

I love Newtown, and I am eager to serve on our Board of Finance. I would be honored to have your support and your vote on November 2.
