Newtown High School's girls' and boys' cross country teams came out on top in their visit to Stratford's Wooster Middle School to take on the host Stratford Red Devils, along with Joel Barlow of Redding on September 26.

The girls beat Stratford 15-50 and Barlow 18-37. Newtown was led by top overall finisher Keira Budge in a time of 20:04.01. Grace Lyons was second in 21:06.82, Clara D'Amico third in 21:07.83, Grace Chiriatti fifth in 21:54.57, Annabelle Foley seventh in 23:26.01, Britta Petersen eighth in 23:26.36, Jessica Zhang ninth in 23:28.43, and Kate Hugo tenth in 24:04.91.

In the boys' race, the Nighthawks defeated Stratford 20-43 and Barlow 27-33. Newtown's top two runners, Soheib Dissa and Noah Masotta did a workout before the meet and ran with other teammates to help set the pace. Newtown's top finisher was Andrew Arena in fourth with a time of 18:56; Barlow's Jackson Sobelman won the race in 16:54. Newtown's Brian Sibley took fifth in 18:57, Masotta sixth in 19:00, Stephen Sibley seventh in 19:18, Dissa eighth in 19:19, Adrian Totir ninth in 19:27, Mitchell Greenhaw tenth in 19:40, and Orion Lowery 11th with a time of 19:43.
