Cross Country Teams Win Races At Home

Newtown High School’s cross country teams had two home races, at Reed School, this past week. The Nighthawks followed up a September 28 race with another on October 3.

The Hawks hosted Immaculate of Danbury and Stratford in the second race. On the girls’ side, Newtown defeated Immaculate 20-43 and topped Stratford 15-50.

Clara D’Amico came in second in a time of 21:52 and was followed by teammates Kendyl Morgenstern in 22:04, Grace Chiriatti in 22:10, Lauren Jacobs in 22:29, Grace Lyons in 22:53, and Keira Budge in a time of 23:00.

The boys defeated Immaculate 23-35 and Stratford 21-40.

Soheib Dissa was first overall with a time of 17:12. Dissa’s teammates to follow were Noah Masotta in 18:10, Curtis Shaw in 18:35, Andrew Arena in 18:51, Henry Prout in 18:52, and Evan Chaudhary with a time of 18:57.

On September 28, the Hawks took on New Fairfield, Masuk of Monroe, and Notre Dame-Fairfield for Senior Night. The girls fell to New Fairfield 34-23, beat Masuk 17-46, and topped Notre Dame 15-50. Budge was Newtown’s fastest finisher, placing third in 21:47.

The boys swept the competition, defeating New Fairfield 23-37, and Masuk and Notre Dame each by 15-50 counts. Dissa came in first in 17:01.
