Don’t Be Fooled

To the Editor:

I am disgusted by the actions that are being taken by the owners of 19 Main Street (the former Inn at Newtown) and their team. They have done little, if anything, to care for the property since its closing. The exterior and landscaping have been allowed to deteriorate, creating an eyesore. Now they are attempting to bully the town and the Borough and hold us hostage with their threats to create additional apartments or affordable housing if they don’t get what they want.

They continue a disinformation campaign, trying to persuade us that they are looking for something that will benefit the town and its residents. Their interest lies solely in making a huge profit despite turning their backs on this historic Newtown site. There is no concern over the negative effects that this apartment complex will have on the appearance of the town, the increased traffic problem, or countless other long term impacts which will erode the character and quality of life here in Newtown.

Let’s not be fooled by their sunny presentations or conned by their strong arm tactics. I encourage the town and residents to oppose this plan.

Sincerely,

Ed Wojtowicz
