Swim Team Falls To Weston As Deierlein Sets Records In 100 Yard Butterfly Race

Newtown High School’s girls’ swimming and diving team fell 99-79 to visiting Weston on October 19, but had some shining performances, including Brianna Deierlein’s team and pool record-setting mark in the 100-yard butterfly race. Deierlein won the event in a time of 58.32 seconds.

The 200 medley relay team of Shayna Millard, Deierlein, Cate Fischer, and Norah Kolb was second in 1:57.74.

Grace Fischer had Newtown’s fastest time in the 200 individual medley, clocking in at 2:25.30 for third place. Kolb was third in the 50 free in 26.56.

Kaitlin Yeatin placed third in the diving competition with a score of 163.35.

Millard gave the Nighthawks a runner-up placement in the 100 freestyle event in 57.59.

The 200 free relay contingent of Alexa Kwarcinski, Grace Fischer, Cate Fischer, and Kolb placed second in 1:49.46. Weston sealed the team win in this event and exhibitioned the last three.

Deierlein won the 100 backstroke race, making her final touch in 59 seconds flat. Grace Fischer was second in the 100 breaststroke race in 1:12.47.

The 400 free relay of Kolb, Millard, Diellza Limani, and Deierlein clocked in at 3:51.18 to win.

NHS hosts Masuk on Tuesday, October 26 at 5:30 pm in the final tune-up for the postseason.
