Will Candidates Bring GOP Agenda To Newtown?

To the Editor:

As the Republicans pledge their allegiance to former President Donald Trump, somehow it is lost that this is the man who has been indicted 91 times, has been convicted of sexual assault, admitted to being a sexual predator on TV, and organized an insurrection on the United States. And yet, the Republicans, including some in Newtown, somehow think they are patriots for supporting him while cheering on his abhorrent behavior.

Locally, and as a reminder, our town was hit with the MAGA ultra-right in the form of book banning. Much like across the nation where the misguided and misinformed Moms for Liberty have supported book banning across our country’s libraries and have turned innocent librarians into enemies of the right-wing party, our school board, with the full support of some in the Newtown Republican party, thought this was the single most important issue we faced in our schools. It wasn’t, and it was shameful.

I encourage all Newtown residents to remember that the book banning issue was just a taste of the misguided priorities the Republican party brings to the table. Please, for the sake of our town, vote Democrat.

Gosh, Democrat attacks have gotten so lazy and predictable. “Everything is ultra-MAGA!” Meanwhile, families are struggling with record inflation (Bidenomics,) our schools have fallen behind other towns, and the dem candidate for FS is literally campaigning with they guy who wants to take away Newtown’s local control of zoning. The voters deserve a higher level of discourse than “but Trump!”

First, if the Newtown schools are falling behind other schools, I think you are making an argument for Democratic control since our current school board is controlled by the Republican Party (and maybe they should have focused on substance instead of a cultural issue like book banning). Secondly, it must be hard for you to come to grips with the fact that the Republican party is being led by Trump and until local Republican leaders take decisive action to separate yourselves from him, you’ll be forever tied to the MAGA ultra right. The ball is in your court.

BoE has been safely in the clutches of the Dems and caused all of this. When Republicans finally got control (voted in) they were thwarted at every turn by Dems on the board and the mob of leftists in town. The schools have fallen behind as the cultural revolution became integral to the school administration’s agenda.

Way to change the subject, Ryan. Ultra-MAGA: We currently have a GOP candidate for Legislative Council who not only believed the 2020 ‘election was stolen’ lies but berated everyone who thought differently and called them ‘intellectually dishonest.’ Now the Newtown GOP is promoting her as the sweet, mild-mannered, working mom. But yes, Bidenomics is original.
