The Flagpole Photographers Camera Club will be offering an exhibit of their members’ best works during the months of November and December at Newtown Municipal Center.

The club will also host a pair of programs this month.

The ninth annual “Newtown & Beyond” exhibition will be presented at Newtown Municipal Center, 3 Primrose Street, November 1 to December 28. The building’s main hallway with grand arches provides a beautiful gallery setting to showcase the large collection of photographs created by members of Newtown’s photography club.

On Sunday, November 4, from 2 to 4 pm, there will be an opening reception, to which the public is invited to attend and meet the photographers. Refreshments will be served and will accompany the event.

“Newtown & Beyond” will be open to the public weekdays between 7:30 am and 5 pm. The exhibit can also be viewed during evening hours when town boards and commissions meet at the municipal center.

Planned Programs

The assigned subject for the month of November is “Juxtaposition,” which is when two or more things are positioned side by side to compare or contrast elements or to create an interesting effect.

The competition for members will take place Thursday, November 8, at 7:15 pm, at Newtown Senior Center, 14 Riverside Road. Members can enter the competition, but nonmembers are also welcome to attend the meeting and hear critiques of the entries and learn more about photography.

“Jazzing Up Dull Photographs” will be the theme of a round table discussion on Thursday, November 29, also hosted by the club. That evening will also be at the senior center, but will begin at 7:30 pm.

Members and guests will be asked to share with the club how they go about salvaging photographs that lack interest in their initial state. The evening will start with a brief presentation on adding clouds to dull skies. Participants will be encouraged to share tips and ask questions on other topics as well.

Members compete in a different assignment each month, as well as in three additional categories: Open Digital, Open Color, and Open Monochrome.

There is no charge to attend Flagpole Photographers Camera Club competitions.

Flagpole Photographers is a local nonprofit group that enables members to share their images and expertise, to learn and grow in their photography, and to enjoy the camaraderie of fellow photographers who come from diverse backgrounds, with photographic skills ranging from beginning novices to professionals.

New members are always welcome to join the club and may enter their work in monthly club competitions, participate in workshops, take field trips, get involved in community programs, and take part in annual exhibits. Dues are $35 per person or $55 for a family. Students may join at no charge.

Additional club information and meeting dates, including calendar of events, member galleries, and workshop information, can be found at flagpolephotographers.com.
