Volleyball Squad Rolls Into Championship Round With 3-0 Win In Semis

Newtown High School’s girls’ volleyball team, the No. 2 seed in the South-West Conference Tournament, defeated visiting and No. 3 Weston 3-0 (25-13, 25-8, 25-13) in the semifinals on November 2.

The Nighthawks advance to face No. 1 Joel Barlow of Redding in the championship match Saturday, November 5, at neutral site Bunnell High in Stratford starting at 6:30 pm.

In the win over Weston, Zosia Teraszkiewicz had an ace, eight kills, a block, and five digs. Grace Miller tallied two aces, nine kills, and a trio of digs. Annabel Saunders had five kills. Amaro Beard-Galati tallied four kills, a block, two assists, and a pair of digs. Ella Stubbs recorded an ace, three kills, and three blocks.

Gabby Soltis logged an ace, 16 assists, and two digs. Haley Austermann had a trio of aces, two kills, 18 assists, and two digs. Lauren Young had three kills, Bella Rio recorded two digs, and Liz Anesi had a block.
