Update: The Class LL State Tournament begins Monday, November 7. No. 7 NHS hosts No. 26 Brien McMahon at 4 pm.

BROOKFIELD — No. 1 seed Newtown High School fell 1-0 to No. 6 Pomperaug of Southbury in the South-West Conference Tournament boys' soccer championship game, at neutral site Brookfield High, on November 3.

Newtown goalkeeper Yarema Stasyshyn and the Nighthawk defense fended off the Panthers for a majority of the night but Nolan Keane deposited a low shot following a Stasyshyn save on a chance seconds earlier; the loan goal of the game came 2:27 into the second half.

The Nighthawks lost for only the second time this fall and will look to bounce back in the state tournament. Read more about the title game and Newtown's overall success in the November 11 print edition of The Bee.
